Things Noticeable this week - Page 2

That Price individual is going to appear in the jungle (well a small part of the Queensland rain forest) for a second time. No, I didn't watch it the first time and I won't be watching it this time.

To be honest I can't recall the last time I watched anything on ITV - at a guess possibly 7 years ago and I can't remember what the programme was.

I haven't watched ITV since Thames disappeared in the early 90's and Carlton TV was just rubbish so its BBC all the way, occasionally Ch4 or 5 but rarely much on worth watching-I don't know about you but TV was much better back when we were younger it seems to me that ITV have no ideas of their own and 'borrow' the BBC's time and time again-a compliment to them of course because the best shows are on that station. As for IACGMOOHere I couldn't careless who goes in or out, I'd watch if those two talentless morons Ant and Dec were thrown off the rope bridge though-that would be great television

Agreed - I cannot abide the current "Reality TV" theme - imo, it's cheap TV.
As for the "pop idol" shows - do me a favour! Simon Cowell must be pi$$ing himself laughing at how easy it is making cash out of the British public....

I even find myself missing Night Network & O.T.T...

As we observe Veterans Day here, Lets please say a prayer for those who gave thier all and did not return and those that still live the Memories of past callings. Give them a handshake and a thanks for the time spent defending thier Country and let them know we appreciatte all they have done for us. Thanks to all of you

At 11am this morning the whole of the country stopped for just a scant two minutes to remember the fallen of two World Wars and the other conflicts. Some laid wreathes at memorials or stood silently. Trafalgar Square and other places in London fell silent too(something that never happened before Blair introduced the idea several years ago) and I might add that all football matches played at the weekend and Monday did impeccable silences. It just shows that people will stop and reflect and long may it continue.

I saw mentioned on BBC news this evening a that the home Ashes cricket series, next due to occur in 2013, will be shown on free to air TV. Good news I think, but I find the system puzzling. Having once conceded, wrongly in my opinion, that the ECB may sell viewing rights as it sees fit (gosh, they sold to the highest bidder, thats a surprise) I am not sure how the government has the legal power to reassume ownership and control of these rights. I'm happy up to a point because I think the ECB are not fit to run the business affairs of a hot dog stand, but I question the right of the government to make decisions over private property: to quote Don Corleone, ''we are not communists, after all.''

The downside of this decision, and it's a big downside, is that the ECB wont get anything like the money for the rights from terrestrial channels than they would get from the pay TV companies. (we assume SKY would be the highest bidder) Therefore there would be a dramatic cut in the funding for grassroots cricket in England and Wales. This will be hugely detrimental in terms of facilities and the quality of coaching for young players and we could see the England side return to the doldrums of world cricket. I hate Murdoch and everything he stands for, I think most of us do. But I have to admit that SKYs cricket coverage is excellent, much better than the snorefest that used to be served up by the BBC.

The ECB just cant afford to go along with this decision and I wont be surprised if we see this end up going through the courts.
