Yes and no. We normally go to South Africa at the end of their summer for ODI and T-20's. But it seems we play these games there in 2020. Both South Africa and New Zealand have games at home in their summer, as they should. So we have split series now. The international games still go ahead but the domestic comps stop for big bash. All our state one day games happen at the start of the season the Sheffield Shield kicks off but even that goes on hold for big bash. They do make a lot of money from big bash. Playing them at AFL grounds is a lot of bums on seats. 50,000 go to the new years eve game.

England winning an overseas test series. Whatever next ?
And does anyone else find it ironic that it has taken a game of football for them to find a proper No 3 (but I did suggest it ) Congrats to the ladies for reaching the World 20/20 final. But it's Australia in the final who do look the real deal. Just take your 'A' game and who knows. |

So it was not to be for the ladies. They were gracious enough AFAIK not to blame the absence of a few critical players ie Brunt and Taylor on the final defeat but the team had managed well enough up to that point. Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing and bowling first after winning the toss in the potential conditions could have yielded the trophy.
Down in Sri Lanka a good call for the England player of the series. That final result was somewhat closer than they probably wanted or even expected. |

Australian cricket
I just keep rolling my eyes at the current state of Australian cricket
Rolling in money beyond belief but with barely enough players to make a decent 11 in any of the 3 formats - home & away That sounds like many in charge have been asleep for years Dining out on the occasional 5-0 home test series and WC wins but ignoring the lamentable overseas form (ironically South Africa aside - they did win a series there 2-1) As for this , lets be friendly & respectful nonsense , and the cheats tag will go away.Get a brain. From what i've read over the years you can go back 20 years and find Australians using direct abuse towards opponents - Hayden v newbie G Smith (South Africa) springs to mind. None of them could take it when it became very personal when returned - think West Indies and G Mcgrath around the time his wife was enduring breast cancer. You throw personal insults and you'll get it back in spades eventually Its a race to the bottom and its never pretty - its not real hard cricket Hard cricket is when your on a pitch where a bowler is hitting you at will and you endure M Clarke v M Morkel in South Africa where he endured and was struggling to hold the bat but made a century..thats hard cricket not someone verballing an opponent Steve Waugh after Gibbs catch in 1999 WC group match was declared not because he threw it away too quickly when celebrating - sledge with you just cost your team the match Thats smart sledging All of this nonsense could be gone tomorrow Mike up the stumps , have the roving audio on the whole field and leave them on all day and you wont hear boo from any of them That Australian players dropped sponsors competitors names to get this turned off should have resulted in them being fined severely , not just match payments imho Last edited by buttsie; November 28th, 2018 at 07:26 AM.. I said earlier that the disciplinary to Stokes and Hales would be little more than a slap on the wrists.
At least they had the common decency (or sense) to admit their guilt of bringing the game in to disrepute which might have prevented an actual ban rather than penalty already served or suspended. Still think the ECB were too quick in letting Stokes play after the court case which, itself, could have delayed the disciplinary. |

Australian Cricket - 2 tests v India
They seem to have almost learned
2 tests in and nobody has been sent home or given home work No sledging - but then they've already learned you dont sledge India because Kohli makes 150s in Australia if you do. Apart from picking guys who you'd think should be only playing pyjama cricket ie Finch averages 18 at shield level as an opener - hes on a central contract so why not gift him 2 tests against the world no 1 side India wins 1st test by 31 runs after Australias tailenders embarass its top 6 http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1...in-aus-2018-19 2nd test in Perths new stadium - supposebly the wicket is from the old Waca square One end doesnt seem to behave the same in that balls aimed at the stumps could be let go and they'd bounce harmlessly over - no longer Another contest which seems to be more down to India now having its own quicks which means its top 6 batsmen arent as vulnerable as they once were on fast bouncy wickets. Bumrah is up there with Rabada and Shami isnt far behind If Ashwin weren't injured this would be even closer - no doubt 2nd Test, India tour of Australia at Perth, Dec 14-18 2018 Australia 326 & 243 India 283 & 97/4 * (32.1 ov, target 287) Day 4 - Session 3: India require another 223 runs with 6 wickets remaining http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1...in-aus-2018-19 Last edited by buttsie; December 17th, 2018 at 08:19 AM.. I've enjoyed these two tests so far. I was expecting the worst but it's a good battle. The Perth pitch is making this game entertaining. The commentators are bitching it's not good enough but you want a good fight between bat and ball and not roads that yield 1500 runs per game.

Player Power?
Controversy in the Big Bash. Pattinson given out "run out" by the 3rd umpire playing for Brisbane. The home crowd boos a lot cos everyone sees the same pictures on the big screen. Then the opposition calls him back and carries on his innings!! I don't generally think a lot of T20 cricket, but the combination of the crowds, excitment and fair pitches giving the bowlers a chance makes it worthwhile watch. I agree the Aust-Ind tests have been very good so far....well matched and again good pitches. I have also been watching NZ vs SL which by contrast has been a batting fest after the 1st day...has happened before at the Basin Reserve. Last edited by judy84; December 19th, 2018 at 08:29 AM.. |

Quite correct....my only excuse is that I was watching the cricket and replays while typing. I think I am getting worse at multi-tasking....the only things I do well simultaneously are having a shit and reading the paper. |
