Default Gray lines - need some help

I posted this in a different thread but since I've no idea where to ask about this, sorry... Anyways, I'm copying my post here!

I'm currently scanning my new mags and I just encountered the following problem. I get these lines on almost all of my images and as you can see they completely ruin my scans. Do you have any idea why this is happening and how I can solve it?

Thanks in advance!

Btw, I tried resetting my scanner, I removed it from my the Device section on my computer, unplugged the usb cable and I still get the same lines on my scans.

It's an HP Scanjet 200 Flatbed and it's pretty new.

Try using the de-screen setting

Just tried it, doesn't work. Could it be a hardware problem? I guess I can't do much in case it is...

What software do you use ? I use the Epson that came with my Epson scanner .
I don't know how the hp software works ,
don't use a dpi setting over 300 and try putting a black sheet of paper over each page I use just a blank sheet on mine and clean your scan bed , look on line to find the best way

Thanks for all the advice, sandhunter!

I use VueScan which I used while I was still scanning on my old BenQ scanner. I tried the HP scanner but I get the same results. I never go over 300 dpi...

I can't seem to find any information on the Internet and there's nothing on the subject on HP's website or forum. I bought it recently but I can't seem to find my warranty, so I guess I can't return it to the store I bought it from. I guess I'm gonna have to go back to my 15 y.o. scanner or buy a new one...

Default just some thoughts

-is the scanner on an even and stable surface?

-when in operation, are vibrations seen , heard ( is it squeaky?) or felt ?

Check if all "feet" on which the scanner should be standing are intact, no missing rubber pads etc. ?

if so try a scan with a towel underneath to prevent unwanted trembles

No stray light onto / into the scanner or direct sunlight?

was no original software provided with the scanner? i tried Vuescan, but had problems with it.

Can You give some more scanned image examples ? what is the result on a blank, black and an evencoloured page?

regards, hfh.

I assume you're talking about the line about 1/10th of the way in from the edge. It looks to me like some sort of hardware defect. I can't see where it would have anything to do with moire or descreening. The first thing I'd try is a different scanner if you have access to one.

Hey, guys, thanks for all the tips!

Yes, the scanner has always been on a stable surface and the room where I scan my mags is always pretty dark. Plus, I can't hear any noises that are out of the ordinary. When I first got it I started using the original scanning software and then went back to VueScan. These problems appeared about 5-6 times after I had been scanning different mags.

As I said I went back to my old BenQ scanner and I don't get the same lines on my images but the problem there is that scanning a single image takes about a minute and that's waaay too much.

Here are some more examples from my HP scanner:

As you can see, the first images are okay (even tough there's a big decrease in the quality compared to when I first started using it) and then it slowly starts adding these lines to the images. What I do is I remove the scanner from the Device Settings on my computer and then I add it again and the problem seems to be solved for the first couple of images and then it's the same... This takes too much time, too..
