I'd forgotten that, but most of the shops had small TVs they'd use to prove their tapes (copies of course) were the real thing. They used to fast forward through the tape to find some real fucking going on, and that proved it was genuine. Simple rule - no TV in the shop or a refusal to run the tape, no sale. These were potentially dangerous places for punters though. Too much browsing of the stock (such as you could get at - there was always either a back room or, more likely, a box of mags kept out the back) and they got 'restless'. I was always a genuine purchaser, but I wanted value for money and I wanted something worth buying. On one occasion there was nothing worth the price (I'd seen most of it) and I moved towards the door - I was glad to get out after the tirade of physical threats! |

From around 1991 to 1993 large amounts of hardcore mags were available in my town. My schoolmates dad was a lorry driver who went to France once or twice a week.
My mate found his stash of around 200 in an army surplus ammo box in the false bottom off the garden shed, about a dozen were 'borrowed' and passed round school until someone grassed him up. Let say there was a small shit storm at school!! I chatted a few years latter to my mates dad about it and he seemed to know what he was doing he would drive to back via Holland/Belgium too fill his tanks with cheap fuel, stop at the truck stop and buy 20-30 mags and stash then in the liner of his passenger side door. He would scratch the price labels off so nobody knew the real prices (around £3 to £4 depending on exchange rate) and then knock the out at £10 each or 3 for £25 to the old blokes down the working mans club and snooker hall. He said he was making enough to pay for 3 family holidays a year all inclusive in Spain etc etc. I don't know how much truth there was to this part but he claimed, CID searched the house his truck (which he got the sack for) and were on his case for weeks/months afterwards.
