Yes! Another alternative to the tried and tested and much-maligned current system. Who remembers the fiasco of the draw for the 2012 WC (I think) that almost took longer than the tournament? And even after dividing the teams between about six different pots one or two draws had to be replaced and redone because the drawn team had too many letters in it's name or some such reason.

anothercustom is on the right track - do it like a real tournament, Wimbledon for example, and scatter the seeded teams through the draw so that 1 and 2 can only meet in the final if they get through, and 3 and 4 should meet those 2 in the semis etc.

Good idea, like it, thank you, too sensible, never happen.

Putney Bridge bus-push jogger suspect arrested

A man has been arrested by police after footage emerged of a jogger appearing to push a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge.

The 50-year-old was held at a residential address in Chelsea on Thursday morning on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was later released while inquiries continue, police said.

The CCTV footage showed the woman, 33, narrowly avoiding serious injury due to the bus driver's quick reactions.

On Wednesday, the Met said it had received a "huge response" to its appeal for information.

CCTV of the incident, which happened on 5 May, was issued earlier in the week in an effort to trace the jogger after police attempts to establish his identity had failed.

The footage shows a man barging the woman to the ground and off the pavement, into the road.

The bus can then be seen swerving to avoid the woman's head.

Afterwards the driver stopped the bus, at which point several passengers got off and went to help the victim.

About 15 minutes later the jogger came back the other way across the bridge.

The woman, who received minor injuries, tried to speak to him but he did not acknowledge her and carried on jogging.

The Met said the man officers arrested was still the subject of investigation but had not been released on official police bail.

Wembley murder: Three jailed over 'dirty look' killing

Three men have been jailed for stabbing a student to death near Wembley Stadium over a row about a dirty look.

Djodjo Nsaka collapsed outside his halls of residence in north-west London after being attacked on 20 January.

Donald Davies and Mukeh Kawa, both 21 from Colindale, were found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey and jailed for life with a minimum of 26 years.

Ali Tas, 21, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison.

Tas, also from Colindale, was cleared of murder.

Mr Nsaka had returned home with two friends after a night out when they were set upon by Kawa, Davies and Tas.

The jury heard the students were attacked after they had earlier asked a female friend of Kawa's why he had given them a "screw-face" expression when they saw him at Middlesex University on 18 January.

After one of them told her that Kawa should "be humble", she said she would pass on the message - and the defendants later went in search of the three students.

"It had gone from pulling a face to 'I am going to kill him, bring him outside', within the course of a day," prosecutor William Boyce QC told the court.

Mr Nsaka's friends were able to flee when the group were attacked but the father of one was stabbed in the heart and died in the street.

Scientists Fear Trump Will Dismiss Blunt Climate Report

WASHINGTON — The average temperature in the United States has risen rapidly and drastically since 1980, and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1,500 years, according to a sweeping federal climate change report awaiting approval by the Trump administration.
The draft report by scientists from 13 federal agencies concludes that Americans are feeling the effects of climate change right now. It directly contradicts claims by President Trump and members of his cabinet who say that the human contribution to climate change is uncertain, and that the ability to predict the effects is limited.

The authors note that thousands of studies, conducted by tens of thousands of scientists, have documented climate changes on land and in the air. “Many lines of evidence demonstrate that human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse (heat-trapping) gases, are primarily responsible for recent observed climate change,” they wrote.
The report was completed this year and is a special science section of the National Climate Assessment, which is congressionally mandated every four years. The National Academy of Sciences has signed off on the draft report, and the authors are awaiting permission from the Trump administration to release it.

Ah yes the more halcyon days of the fledgling forum when Modding was a lot easier because there weren't that many members, mind you we had our fair share of idiots trying to post some very dodgy stuff but they were dealt with severely and quickly. On the whole I never intended to stay this long.

I've noticed that new style paving has been laid all over the place, it consists of brick-like stones and smaller paving stones rather than the usual squarer paving stones. The problem is not only is it inconvenient for pedestrians but time-consuming, it does however look good and easy to walk on.

I've noticed that the makers of double strength cordial drinks are taking the piss, if I use half the amount as normal cordial it tastes a lot weaker, the buggers I use about the same amount and it tastes fine.

My collection of biro's and other assorted pens has also soared over 1,000 this week, not collectable pens by the way I'm just a stationery geek.
