Total Recall (1990)

Trailer

The year is 2084 and the construction worker Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) keeps having dreams about Mars and a mysterious woman. He really wants to visit Mars but is discouraged by his wife Lori (Sharon Stone). A company called Rekall provides fake memories of vacations, so Quaid chooses to buy a memory trip to Mars as a secret agent. But the implanting procedure fails as Quaid starts to reveal surpressed memories of his actual identity. To cover it up, the company erases his memories of the visit and sends him home. However, he is a attacked by a co-worker and a group of thugs who seem to work for the Agency but Quaid kills them all, confused about how he acquired the fighting skills. Upon arriving at home, he is attacked by his wife who tells him that she was never his real wife and his life as Douglas Quaid is a memory implant.

A loose adaptation of a Philip K. Dick short story, Total Recall is a funny and entertaining action film. The screenplay was written by Alien authors Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett.

Although this has plenty of faults and looks a bit dated in parts, I still prefer it to the more recent re-make and have now watched it quite a few times on TV.

Investigating a series of odd clues Hobbes comes across the name Azazel which he discovers is a demon and that it transfers to and from people simply by them touching someone else

If you liked that I suggest you watch The First Power (1990) which Fallen was basically a unoffical remake of.

Fallen is probably technically superior but First Power may be more enjoyable.

The Rescuers (1977)
- Revisiting a beloved childhood classic for the 1st time in many years.
- I have maintained since childhood that the sequel is superior & nothing this viewing has given me cause to re-conaider that opinion, but this is still plenty good.
- Love the unique world building relating to the mice's society.
- Gorgeous matte painted backgrounds as you can see in the above intro & especially for Medusa's Gothic looking river boat.
- Bernard is slightly less likable then I recall & Bianca brings out his better half.

Default Star Wars: Rogue One

A movie that proves that a side story to the main story can be just as compelling, and in this case done much better in my opinion than the much overly-hyped Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Rogue One shocked some fans because it's a story of heroes in which none of the primary heroes of the story survive. Here you have the "rebel spies" that Darth Vader references in Episode IV: A New Hope. Here are the human faces behind the spies who steal the plans of the Death Star so that Princess Leia can provide the Rebellion with the information needed to destroy the Death Star.

Rogue One was surprisingly moving and gritty, and I think it's George Lucas' best Star Wars movie since he made the original trilogy back in the late 1970s.

It stands in stark contrast to the very Disney-like prequels of Episodes I, II, and III.

Rogue One feels more like a grounded war movie at times than it does a science space fantasy. The huge fleet battle at the end between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance had the feel of a WII carrier naval battle between the U.S. and Japan, like Midway. The pilots are real people, and in this episode we finally see WOMEN rebel fighter pilots as well as men, which for me put this movie totally over the top. Female heroes who take a lead role in a space fantasy/war movie and are shown fighting side by side with men in the same exact kinds of fighter craft just made me cheer and thrilled me to no end!

What I'm trying to say is that Rogue One made the Star Wars universe feel REAL and BELIEVABLE again. You watch this movie and you really do feel and believe that this could have happened in some other place and time.

I consider it to be a masterpiece, the best Star Wars since Return of the Jedi without question.

Even if you're not a Star Wars fan and you are not well versed with the franchise, I very strongly encourage you to check this one out by itself. It stands alone as its own story very well even if you don't know what happens in the other episodes of the story!

Wizards of the Demon Sword (1991)

Sword & sorcery nonsense from those nice guys at Troma, interesting for the animated dinosaur sequences and the bare chested might of Blake Bahner (who he ???) as the heroic Thane

Zombiegeddon (2003)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316946/

opens with a series of crap reviews of the upcoming film starting with Uwe Boll which sets the tone nicely. It's a Troma movie so it is bound to be funny and tasteless, stars Tom Savini, Brinke Stevens, Linnea Quigley and a host of others as a bargain basement satan plans to rid the Earth of all females
