Why male cats fight each other so brutally, instead to share their meals, their wives and territories with new neighbours?

Do you imagine running like a mad with a knife to injure your new neighbours and to fight each time you cross them in the street until that there is a winner?

It's my female cat that chases invaders away. The male one just sits and looks at them (mind you, in his case that is usually enough - he is a big bugger!)

Anybody have that feeling when he get's back the female rosestone will have driven the male one nuts over the Christmas weekend and he'll post about it here

My old cat is a streetfighter. But now... aging, he loses almost all his fights and sometimes comes back with very deep injuries.
One year ago, I had to send him to the veterinary, because he was dying of thorax infection. According to the vet it was because of a vicious bite, that let bacterias invading the ribcage. That sometimes happens to cats.
Apart the fact that costs me a fortune and he needed monthes to recover his health, now... he fights again instead to immediatly come back home.

He understood that I was on his side. When stronger cats come on his territory, he "calls" me and I shout on them. But I'm not always there and he finally engages the fights.
Keeping him at home would make him very unhappy.
I understood one thing thanks to him, a comfortable home is not suitable for a warlord.
