Could possibly be for two active service tours in Afghanistan, one of which was as a pilot on Apache Attack helicopters, not many places to hide in safety in that job! This is strange. Here it is March 12. There has not been any snow in Chicago for 3 months, yet the forecast is calling for 1-3 inches of snow for tomorrow and a few days later. It is very rare to get snow in Chicago in March. Old man Winter is just having his jollies, giving Chi-town one more round of snow to remind us that Winter is not dead yet. You darn buzzard.

Same here in New England ... February was fantastic but March came in like a lion! The weathermen are watching a low pressure system which should be building up offshore in a couple of days. At this point they are not quite sure about it, but if it becomes a snow event (temps presently in the 20's to support snow ) and its path, we could be talking some significant snowfall totals!

UPDATE: The system presently in TM's area is making its way east and will merge tomorrow morning (3/14/17) with a massive system heading this way from the south! We are in for a classic Nor-easter and can expect a foot-plus of that terrible four letter word -- snow! With the first day of Spring a week away!

I'm now addicted to using this thread as my bi-weekly therapy session about my infinitely more fragrant other half, so apols in advance.

A couple of years ago, the missus discovered that she is exactly the same height and weight as the actress Anne Hathaway. About a month ago, the missus weighed herself and discovered that she is now 10lbs more than this (or 5lbs, or whatever). Cue much gnashing of teeth and wailing about the humanity, etc.

This doesn't bother me. She looks great. What bothers me, is that I'm expected to tell her 18,000 times a day that she looks great, in a variety of different ways, and if I fall short I'm in trouble. I'll open the door from the bathroom at 3am after a night time piddle, and she'll be stood there, like one half of a creepy set of twins from a Stephen King novel, and demand 'Find a new and more creative way to tell me I don't look fat. Do it NOW!', while I panic, and after each attempted compliment she'll look at me suspicously, the way a small child looks at their parent when they haven't yet decided if they like what's just been put in front of them for dinner, and whether they should embark on a thunder-sulk that makes the house shake.

Not only that, but now I have to go on starvation rations too, because if I eat anything, she'll either a) steal most it from me, and then blame me, or b) accuse me of hiding it from her and say 'So you DO think I'm fat!' (fat? No. Mildly deranged? Yes). And she'll have a go at me because she 'can't understand that she eats the same as I do but I don't put on weight', and for some reason that I'm 7 inches taller and do twice as much exercise doesn't qualify as adequate explanation. So I'm reduced to scarfing choccy bars and bags of crisps on my way back from the store like a teenager huffing glue.

And saying 'why don't you just go to the gym if it bothers you so much?' doesn't help either. Who knew, right?
