It is amazing that a pin-up was transformed into a cultural icon. She'll be with us for as long as the pin-up or glamour exists. However 'naughty' she was Betty always retained a sense of innocence and good natured fun. I don't know anyone else who could do that.
As has been said, it is wonderful that she was recognised as an icon after a troubled middle part of her life. we have lost a true legend in a world that overuses the word. God bless |

Put her in the Anna Nicole Smith category, dead chicks I still spank the monkey to. Her bondage pics were the first 'porn' I ever saw. She did spend many years refuting her work, but seemed to accept her place in history the last decade or so.

I am deeply sadden by the loss of The Great Bettie Mae Page. I have always been curious with Bettie Page, back in the late 80's. This became a trend in the fashion and lifestyle and naively I thought she was a fictional character, forgive me. It was only for the past 2 years, I started collecting membrobilia of Bettie Page. She was a legend in her own right and will NEVER ever be beaten or raplaced. She had style, grace and originality. Bettie, wisely and enigmaticly, wanted everyone to remember her as she was then and the people who is close to her, now, will know the real Bettie Page. Thankyou Bettie Mae Page, our original Queen of Pin-Ups. Rest in Peace and God Bless X

she was still preforming right to the end, she was still on stage in Chicago six weeks ago. It was filmed and will be aired in Feb '09.....considering she was dying of cancer that just shows what an incredibly tough woman she was. They really don't make them like her anymore.
it is nice that she got a gold disk last week for her 'Santa Baby' song. Definitely going out strong and on a high. This song shows how sexy a song can be without being explicit it is amazing that she went on to such heights as she had such a horrible childhood full of abuse. She was also ostracised by all races for being of mixed-race, for being illegitimate (the child of a fourteen year old girl and the white son of a plantation owner....and this is twentieth century USA!!!!!, having to work in the cotton fields at eight years old... and from what can only been seen as such a tough time that simply don't exist in the west today, thank god, she was given away by her mother, or "given away for slavery", as Eartha put it. She was nominated for Tony's, Grammy's, Emmy's, (one of the very few people to get nominated in all), was described by Orson Welles as the 'most exciting woman in the world', was blacklisted in the late '60's in the US for her views on the Vietnam war and had to spend 11 years working outside the US, was spied on by the CIA, played Helen of Troy for Welles, toured South Africa during apartheid as a way to argue against this horrific injustice, and be a guest of the President of the US in the Whitehouse several times, spent the rest of her life right up to the end working with homeless and poor people to improve their lot.. Quite a turnaround!!!! I've always had a soft spot for her for her work with Frankie Howerd. Eartha as Catwoman in Batman Eartha in 1956 as I said, they don't make people like Eartha anymore. An absolutely amazing person who's passing leaves the world a little less eccentric, and happy. |

Jesus, must suck for the family to lose her, and on one of the worst days to lose someone(not that the day you lose someone should matter).
My heart goes out to the family. RIP Eartha.
