Teens at this age can only reason in black and white, either/or terms, base their choices on emotional impulses, and have little or no ability to visualize the long term consequences of their actions. I am not saying that such people need to welcomed back with open arms, or without debriefing and remedial education and a period of earning reintegration into the cultures they previously disavowed and rejected. I am saying that some of the opinions expressed in this thread are completely barbaric and not in tune with the Christian values upon which we base our legal systems. Some commentators seem little better than the jihadis they so eagerly condemn.

If we truly wish to wean Muslims away from medieval values we need to demonstrate a superior set of moral values. So far we have given them large doses of naked greed and might makes right diplomacy. Even folks with little education beyond reciting the Quran can easily identify hypocrisy and self-righteousness.

In my opinion, former ISIS followers who repudiate them are our best advertisement when trying to discourage new recruits and lure defectors.
I don't want to strip their citizenship , but I want them to be prosecuted for their crimes against my country even if it is only providing aide to the enemy and if found guilty go to jail for a long time as any young citizen of any western country learns at a young age , they know this a crime against our society .

did she really give Comfort to the enemy? If she was fighting with ISIS in Syria then she was fighting a Asad who we were supposedly fighting against which goes to show you what a fucked up this situation is.

If we are going to prosecute people for giving aid and comfort to the enemy, I'd amend the statute of limitations and add Jane Fonda.

Default Is the 737 - Max 8 the world's first autonomous passenger jet?

Saw this in my local newspaper today, and wondered why the pilots of these aircraft did not simply switch off the defective MCAS system in order to regain control.

Or . . . . is this a system that cannot be shut off by the crew?

***********

"In the aftermath of two crashes involving Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, global attention is centring on an anti-stall system called the Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS).

The system was introduced on the aircraft — in service since May 2017 — because of design changes. According to The Air Current online news site, Boeing moved the engine slightly forward and higher up on the Max 8 and extended the nose landing gear by eight inches.

This made the plane 14 per cent more fuel efficient but it also changed how the plane handled — it tended to pitch up.

If a plane pitches up too high it will stall.

To address this, Boeing added the MCAS system which is constantly being fed data from two devices called angle-of-attack sensors located on the plane’s nose. The system is supposed to kick in when it senses the plane is about to stall and make adjustments so that the nose points downward.

But the new Boeing planes, it is feared, are going into emergency mode when there is no emergency.

A preliminary report released by local authorities after the Oct. 29 wreck of Lion Air Flight 610 — which went down off the coast of Indonesia, killing all 189 people on board — notes that the angle-of-attack sensor was sending erroneous readings throughout the short flight that day.

As the aircraft made its initial ascent, the sensor insisted the nose of the plane was too high and the MCAS kicked in, sending the plane downward as the pilots struggled to force it back up.

“Black-box data released by Indonesian investigators showed that the pilots were pulling back on the control column, attempting to raise the plane’s nose, with almost 100 pounds of pressure before they crashed,” the Washington Post reported.

Though the preliminary report stressed that the investigation was ongoing and did not assign blame for what happened, the crash raised questions about whether airlines and pilots had been trained on all the 737 Max’s software features.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency notice to all airlines that fly the aircraft, warning them that faulty sensor inputs “could cause the flight crew to have difficulty controlling the airplane,” leading to “possible impact with terrain.”

Pilots are trained to use a procedure to halt such dives, but Bloomberg reported that three pilots’ unions in the U.S. highlighted what they said was a lack of information provided by Boeing on the new system on the 737 Max 8.

Boeing is being sued by the families of victims of the Lion Air disaster over the plane’s allegedly faulty software.

The similarities between the Lion Air crash and the Ethiopian Airlines disaster are striking.

Both flights crashed within minutes of takeoff.

Both flights struggled to gain altitude.

Both flights ascended and descended several times before nosediving. In the case of Lion Air’s 12-minute journey, the plane pitched downward more than two dozen times before its final, deadly plunge. "

Perhaps this has been mentioned previously: If a person is born in the United States of America then they are a citizen. Their citizenship can't be revoked unless the citizen revoked it on their own. (Difficult to prove in the case of a runaway ISIS bride. Easy to prove for American born William Joyce "Lord Haw-Haw" who identified himself as a British subject before WWII.) Revoking the citizenship of a naturalized immigrant has been done in the past for mafia chieftains, some radicals and even a born citizen. However mass deportations under Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer in 1920 were not viewed positively. 556 radicals or criminals were kicked out, but the Department of Labor, which controlled immigration at the time, opposed most of the 2,000 cases Palmer put forward and so did the courts. This doesn't mean that someone who is a born citizen commits "crimes" against America at the behest of foreign powers can't be punished. The controversial case of "Tokyo Rose" - Iva Toguri - can be used as a flawed example. She was stripped of her citizenship and spent 6 years in prison. Witnesses later said that they were threatened by the prosecution and the judge pushed the jury for a conviction. Toguri was pardoned and had her citizenship restored by President Gerald Ford who was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Pacific War.

Re the ISIL brides and their revoked citizenship, they are traitors and I feel not the slightest shred of pity. IMHO more suffering is always preferable to less suffering for such people as these. When all the do-gooders such as Diane Abbott, Save the Children pontificate about Ms Shamima Begum's lost baby

Quote:
a stain on the conscience of this government
per Ms Abbott

I ask myself why they don't point the finger of blame at Ms Begum herself, and her decision to go there, join the cause and fornicate with murderers. The baby did not ask to be born and did not deserve to suffer; but she made the situation. It's her fault, QED.

Having said that much, I agree that she should not be denied citizenship. But if she wanted to return to the country which she so grossly slighted when hurrying off to join its deadly enemies, she should have all the expense and effort of doing so, with no help from the government whatsoever. Then, once she arrives, she should face immediate arrest and a trial by jury for her crimes, including treason.

The reason why I would oppose removing her British citizenship is that she is our rubbish and we are responsible for her.

How can you be so sure what young people are learning in our schools? Tests are continually showing that even high school graduates have little knowledge of civics, geography, or history.

Big Bang: K-pop star quits showbiz amid 'sex bribery' claims

Quote:
One of South Korea's most successful boyband stars has announced his retirement from showbiz, a day after he was charged with supplying prostitutes to business investors.

Seungri will be leaving the five-piece group Big Bang, who have sold over 140 million records since their 2006 debut and are known as the "Kings of K-pop".

The 28-year-old wrote on Instagram: "I have decided to retire because the controversy has become so big."

He has denied procuring prostitutes.

Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, had already cancelled all planned engagements in February, and the March shows of his solo tour.

In a statement he apologised to his fans, and promised to "sincerely participate in investigations into all allegations".

Jung Joon-young: K-pop star quits over secret sex videos

Quote:
A second K-pop star has dramatically quit the music business, in a growing industry sex scandal.

Jung Joon-young, 30, admitted to secretly filming himself having sex with women and sharing the footage.

"I admit to all my crimes," said Jung in a statement. He also promised to drop all his TV and music work.

It comes a day after superstar Seungri from the group Big Bang quit the industry after he was charged with sex bribery.

Jung, who is accused of taping 10 or more women, is due to be questioned by Seoul Metropolitan Police on Thursday.

"I filmed women without their consent and shared it in a chatroom, and while I was doing so I didn't feel a great sense of guilt," said Jung in the statement released late on Tuesday.

It came after South Korean broadcaster SBS reported allegations that he had filmed his own sex videos without his partners' permission, and shared them with friends in a mobile chat group during 2015-16.

IIRC, Ms Fonda was opposed to the Vietnam War? I would be interested to hear about anything Jane Fonda did which was disloyal to the United States; but a lot of very good and decent people opposed the Vietnam War, and on the whole I would suggest they were proven right. There are a lot of American military graves in Vietnam, containing people who should not be dead. They had lives to live just as worthwhile as your life, or my life, and their deaths achieved nothing. I'm not in such a hurry to condemn Ms Fonda unless she acted improperly. Maybe you can tell us what she did which was so unacceptable?
