49er's tight end George Kittle had 7 catches for 210 yards in the first half. The record for most yards by a tight end in a game was Shannon Sharpe with 214.
Kittle finished the game with 7 catches and 210 yards. You're telling me the 49er's couldn't figure out some way to get him that record?!?!?

Which is a long winded way of saying, adjustments were made. As far as making sure he broke the record: 1) That would show that "Kittle doesn't have the right 'attitude' and isn't a 'team player,'" both of which are horseshit terms used by asshat sportswriters and pundits all the goddamn time. 2) The 49ers probably had no clue about how close he was to the record, as the coaching staff tend to have something a little more important on their minds during the game, making play calls/adjustments/actually coaching. 3) Players have all kinds of whacky bonus clauses in their contracts, mlb and HoFer Reggie Jackson had one when he was with the Spankees that said if the Spanks drew over "x" number of fans to games during the season, Jackson got a $2,000,000 bonus, and if they drew "x+" number of fans, Jackson got $4,000,000. there are also bonuses for making All Star/All Pro/Pro Bowl's and winning Gold Gloves/Silver Sluggers/Cy Youngs/MVP's/Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year/Scoring/Rebounding titles/catching the most passes/rushing/passing for the most yards, you get the idea? Which is awesome. It gives the players some extra incentive on top of the kajillions* of dollars they are already being paid. However, team owners aren't always so enthused about having to pay out these bonuses and thus there have been instances where coaches have deliberately taken players out of the game so the player would not reach a particular on field achievement that would trigger a bonus. That is a monumental dick move on the team's part. Speaking of dick moves on the part of team's, The Redskins decision to sign Mark "Buttfumble" Sanchez paid off so well for them. He certainly had zero trouble learning the Redskins offensive system, unlike that America hating Kaepernick. *While players do make a good bit of money a lot of them, in fact all of them are being fucked over by Trump's tax plan, which increases taxes on them. |

Kaepernick would have been the right move, unfortunately owners seem reluctant to sign him, but I believe the NFL don't want him in the league. Could the Cowboys be heading into the play offs on an 8 game winning streak? |

Not surprised that the Bears beat the Rams. The Bears are a legitimate playoff team, especially when Khalil Mack is healthy. It is late in the season, the game was in Chicago, and the Rams screwed up repeatedly.
These games happen every year. Note that the Broncos lost to the Niners and Houston ended their winning streak by losing to the Colts at home (and the Colts were shut out last week by the same Jags team that got steamrolled by Derrick Henry on Thursday) It seems that we should have seen the Patriots losing to the Dolphins and the Steelers to Oakland coming. I hear that Roethlisberger has never won in Oakland. I still say that this is one of the weirdest seasons we have yet seen. One trend is that defenses are coming together. Remember how overmatched defenses were early in the season? This week Baker Mayfield throws a touchdown strike to a triple covered receiver and Patrick Mahomes makes yet another mind bending play. |

Reggie McKenzie Looking for New Job.
The Raiders firing Reggie McKenzie is not surprising. Good Reggie got them out of the salary cap hell left by Al Davis. Bad Reggie kept whiffing in the draft, except for 2015. He came to Oakland with a reputation as a draft guru and skilled at finding undrafted talent to fill out the roster. This didn't happen in Oakland.
Oddly, Green Bay's talent woes began when he moved to the Raiders. Maybe evaluating players is much harder than we know. |

Damn!
The Vikings choked tonight. They were down 21-0 all the way to almost the end of the 4th quarter. |

Seattle's offense may doom them to an early elimination, too. |

Cousins cannot play for four quarters, one and a bit if your lucky. Still cannot believe the Vikings thought he would be the difference maker, never going to win you a Superbowl.

Jon Gruden is the most overrated NFL coach of the last 35 years. He got lucky in that he was 'traded' to a team that he had nothing to do with in terms of assembling building player personnel, had one of the great defenses at it's absolute peak and got to face the team he had been the head coach of the previous year, and within a minute or so of watching tape he knew he had the Raiders by the balls because they didn't change a single goddamn thing in their offense. The Bucs literally knew every call the Raiders were going to make on offense before they made it. And what do you know, Gruden and the Buc's didn't do shit in the years afterwards. I have a LOT of respect for Al Davis because of all the various roles he played during his life, head coach, scout, general manager, league commissioner, owner. the only other figure in NFL history who comes close to doing as many different jobs and doing them well is George Halas. It's going to be interesting seeing what happens when the Raiders move to Vegas, how the Strip/casinos will affect players on both the Raiders the teams that come to play them and if Gruden really lasts 10 years. |
