Marine. Loved by her constituents. Feels like she has been around long enough to have served drinks at the Last Supper. Will people outside her sphere of influence like Her? Probably not, but you could do a lot worse.

Your impression is shared by many who live here... She is a serial complainer, loves media attention and is never short of something to say that guarantees it. If you were to ask her about the most important piece of legislation she ever introduced, you'd likely hear little more than crickets.

Also true.. at least she doesn't continually confuse President Trump with former President Bush, like one of her "esteemed" colleagues continues to do.

Inner city areas tend to love those who continually promise them the world and deliver none of it. For me, she is in the same class as career politicians Shelia Jackson Lee, Charlie Rangel, Nancy Pelosi, Julia Carson and others who will get re-elected as long as they live for no other reason than they run unopposed for office in heavily democratic areas.

My fellow Englishmen will agree that we've got a few people like her living in England.
Morrisey from the Smiths springs to mind...

It is like our current president sat down and took notes on how to build a connection to the voter base cause they both use the same tatic. To the outside they look like they are plying towards the camera, and that is part of it, but what they are really doing is echoing the the the thoughts and concerns of their constituents and the farther from the mainstream those concerns are the more connected their base feels.

Not really a concern. The voters know that they are out of the mainstream and the legislation they would introduce will not ever see the floor let alone be passed into law, plus would you want to be known as someone who got stuff done yet your voters lives got no better?

you seem to have left out funding, it is the funding that makes them as untouchable as they are, it is the the funding that serves as a backstop to prevent these dogs from going too far off of the porch. Nancy by herself has got a net worth in the nine figure range, and with the deals going on in her district and her committee positions in the house if she is not at least approaching 8 figures she is doing something wrong

They need no guns as long they have the money.

So it's unlikely until the donations of the parties isn't reformed generally/drastically; it must be strong limited. And it seems that the displeasure by the big US parties doesn't change that big problem in a medium-term.

Hmm.. Maxine Waters’ base…

Her district 43 is south Los Angeles, which includes garden spots like the LAX neighborhood, Inglewood (just NW of Compton), and Watts (home of the riots). Her constituency is made up of:
· 50% Mexican
· 25% black
· Asian & white are 10-15% each

I’ve gotta think that her endless conspiracy theories about Russia and other inane shit-stirrings that dominate her attention are not at the top of the list of concerns and worries amongst her “base” living there in the hood.

As opposed to got nothing done, nothing got better, and still get elected over and over again. Maybe you’re right.. sounds like much less effort required to achieve the same result.

Who benefits by her acting the way she does to the point it's worth an investment?

I’ll agree with that as long as it’s demonstrable that funding is the true reason Waters gets over 70% of the vote every time she runs. Is she buying votes? It’s not the oft-maligned redistricting that makes her and others untouchable? There’s nothing to her façade of being a female minority champion of the countless “victims” she’s supposed to represent?

Her reelection campaigns have to be amongst the cheapest, low-effort endeavors ever.. especially when no amount of so-called ‘funding’ is going to put a republican in her seat. And she knows it.

Reading the movie thread, I was surprised to see that Brecht watched a French film.

I just wanted to know your opinion about the way that Hollywood always need to make remake of valuable European films with American actors.

Here in Europe we always watch at the original American productions. Your stars are our stars too.

Do you think that Hollywood make a good decision to "Americanize" the valuable foreign films or would you prefer to watch the original version undertiteled or sound doubled?

This is interesting information. She may be vulnerable to being deposed by an Hispanic candidate. In California the top two vote getters in the primary run off. In these heavily Democratic districts, embarrassing reps have been taken out by challengers from their own party. Few tears were shed upon the departure of Pete Stark and Mike Honda discovered that serving constituents is important.

I have rarely seen a Hollywood remake that was as good as the original, but much of Middle America will not watch a foreign film.

You shouldn't be. I watch French and European films all the time. I'm a European myself and one of the biggest spammers in the movie thread.

You need to understand that Hollywood will make and remake any film they think that can make a profit on.
