I have no idea which of these songs I actually heard first. They just sort of occupy the same place in my memories. My mom and dad always had the radio playing. I would guess that I was either three or four years old, so 1976 or 1977.

Harry Nilsson - Everybody's Talkin'

Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

Thanks, Scoundrel. I was thinking purely radio and hadn't even thought about lullabies. When I was little and couldn't sleep, my dad would sit on the edge of my bed and sing this little jewel of a song to me. I can remember drifting off to sleep dreaming of cowboys around a camp fire and wild horses running through grassy plains of the west. One of the few good memories I have of my father

Roy Rogers - Git Along Little Dogies

When I was a little kid, my dad brought me all the Beatles albums on 4 track tape. I remember this was my favorite, the one I listened to over and over.

Lobo - Me & You & A Dog Named Boo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fgGNZYR5QM

Apparantly as a very young kid, I kept asking my parents to play "Dog named Boo" , so I class this as the first song that I remember.
I think I must have heard it on the radio 'cause my parents had to go and buy the record to shut me up!

I remember Patti Paige's "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window" (1953, I was 4 or 5) pretty well,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AkLE4X-bbU

but my parents had a 78 record player that got a lot of use, and something they might have played around Christmas like "The Nutcracker Suite" might have registered sooner.
