Oh man! Traily, I'm disappointed. You really need to get out once in a while. Get out of that big city of yours and head a couple of hours to the northwest to Monroe, Wisconsin. Thats where the only Limburger cheese is made in the US. Head down to the city square and look for Baumgartner's (its a bar, I think on the north side of the square).

You can actually buy a Limburger sandwich! Might take a while to get it down (and most people in the bar will be cheering you on trying to get it down) but it really is worth the while. Nice little town with very good beer and pretty decent cheese. They do make lots of other types that are worth eating.

Cheese Whiz - nasty stuff.

A certain name brand (Kr**t) cheddar and mozzarella have really gone downhill. It's rubbery and just doesn't taste or look like a real cheese should - it's cheap to buy.

The real good cheese costs double or triple what the crap costs. And it's worth it.

James Thurber did an entire story about Limberger cheese stinking up a church service.
America has inflicted 'Cheese analogue' on us. It is made of various by-products of the food industry and looks just like cheese when grated and sprinkled on pizza but is so totally devoid of any trace of flavour, making it the perfect companion to turkey ham.
My personal hate is Philly which solved the conundrum of chalk and cheese by combining them.

I had both some of the best cheese and worst cheese I've ever had aboard the Marella Explorer II last month. One of the sandwiches at the snack shack claimed to have smoked cheese, nah it was crappy processed cheddar. There were some very good fresh varieties at the buffet though.

I forget the brand, but it was generic grocery store crap, like their in house brand. It was mild cheddar and it was all gross and icky and I suspect it was a bad batch, cuz nobody could possibly sell that as their regular cheese and stay in business. And good god it was nasty.

On another online forum I'm on people are saying grocer's standards are really slipping but they're still hiking up the prices. No one should stand for it.
