I use it sometimes in omelets and grilled cheese sandwiches where it does taste pretty good. But thats it. Anything else and its junk. |

American cheese is also the prefered cheese for a cheeseburger. I've heard top chefs say that.

My uncle returned from Holland with a selection of gourmet Dutch cheeses which is dutifully handed out to the family as presents.
I got a type of hard round ball cheese, similar to Gouda, but flavoured with asparagus.....it was so grim that after taking a thin sliver, I pushed a 9 inch nail through it and nailed it to the fence for the birds to eat. My Uncle asked how he cheese was and so I told him and he said. Yes, ours was grim as well. Only my Brother enjoyed his cheese ( he was saying nice thing to stay in Uncles' will I think).. he is on here as a lurker |

I agree with the wrapped in plastic calling itself American type of cheese, that which supposedly "makes" a cheeseburger and pretty much all those cheeses with things in them that are not naturally in milk. You know, chilli, onions, dates.

I realize this may be a contradiction in terms, but good American cheese should have a mild cheddar-like flavor. The reason that it is the preferred cheese for a cheeseburger is that American cheese is made to melt evenly and without separating.

Smelly vintage danish cheeses maybe?
How about some Danbo or Gamle Ole that you can´t even take into your house, for fear of everything goin´bad.
The smell is so strong that you can´t taste anything after that. Some more mild versions are really good, but the 18 year old,not for me. The above statement only apply to cheese, not whisky and girls. |

Old Cheddar, especially the craft made white American cheddar that is 5 -15 years old is delightful. You know you have a good chunk when it crumbles off of the block, or when it flakes off of the knife as you cut it... |
