Absolutely zero problem with my Windows XP. Then the graphic card in my Hewlett Packard crashed and I changed for a very cheap Samsung (550 $) with mat screen (I hate brilliant screen) and I have absolutely zero problem with my pre-install Windows 8 upgraded in 8.1 by myself.

So what do you want to make with your computer?

Making 3D porn characters with Maya?
Photoshop pussies of randy models?

or writing some emails and surfing on the web?

The secret with Windows, don't add useless freeware, install a good antivirus

and don't surf on xxxpasswordlazybitchcrak.blackinternet....

MS Access is okay, it doesn't feel as 'solid' as SQL but it is quite colourful and user-friendly, tbh I've never even bothered to look into apple's db software. I do have to say that I think MS Excel is an excellent piece of kit, even if they did 'borrow' it from VisiCalc and those guys. Except on the Mac, the version I have anyway, which you can't do anything with, you can't even programme in it. But Excel on a pc is the only reason I actually own a pc.

Thumbs down Women tattooed

Yesterday I was in a music festival for professionnal reason.
There were 35'000 people looking at and hearing a concert.
From several points of view where I was, I observed a "dramatic" thing.
Young and adult women are more badly tattooed than men. They get huge and horrible tatooes on both side of their legs, that cover all their arms, the neck, one shoulder...
Very very annoying, disgraceful.

Now they look like old pirates, like drug addicts. Is common sens dissapearing? Are so many women that stupid? What do they want to prove?

Come on women, you are too nice to wear tatooes on your beautiful skin.

Access may be OK, but I've never gotten into it. I had many applications programmed in Foxpro. The nice part of Foxpro was that it was easy to recycle code and reports. I didn't find Access to be nearly as flexible. Excel also has some quirks, such as making a named range permanent. In Lotus and Quattro Pro, the range was allowed to expand so you could continue running a macro on an expanding dataset. It can probably be arranged somehow through Visual Basic coding in Excel and Access. But it was very annoying to have hours of work made useless by a bunch of undocumented Microsoft calls designed to reduce the functionality of existing programs in markets Microsoft decided to enter. Needless to say, the prospect of having to invest many hours in learning a new programming language was not very customer friendly on Microsoft's part. I was one of many people who were very disappointed when the Justice Department punted on the anti-trust suit when the first round of trials provided clear evidence of Microsoft's guilt had charges been filed under Title 1 of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The Chinese took note and standardized their applications on Linux.

The Apple database products were all flat files, rather than relational databases. So there was no real advantage to using them since Excel spreadsheets can also be treated as flat file databases. Mind you, my experience is quite dated now that I've been out of the hands on roles for about 10 years.

Worst OS ever but its easy to use

You might want to get some therapy very soon

In all seriousness i had a PC running XP that crawled to a stand still

Thought it was dead but the local computer tech restored it for AUS100-00 back to
brand new that ran 100s times quicker

Just make sure you save any content to an external hard drive
otherwise they will charge you like wounded bull for recovering anything on the C drive.

The real lesson - avoid downloading freeware and deleting it because it inevitably slows your system down

Even the best registry tools (paid) dont remove half the issues the 3rd party software causes
and to add insult regularly remove valid working parts

Why do Macs work so well - you cant get under the hood

Yeah, that is blooming annoying, I've had to do that and it took me ages! And I'll probably have to do it again pretty soon, and I've forgotten how I did it last time It was some weird workaround that I found on someone's website where you write a formula in the named range I think, or it might have been VB, I can't remember I'm going to have to do some Visual Basic coding anyway probably, and it's been over a year since I did any and I think I've forgotten everything I knew!

I've never even heard of Foxpro tbh, although I don't know much about databases, I've just had to create a few and administer them. I don't think I've tried Open Office's version of spreadsheet or db software either, that I can remember.

So.......I can come to you when I have a database problem, right Brian? Brian......? Right....?

rosestone :Foxpro is an old techno, no more maintained.
Sql server is a good relational database management system.
If you need help for creating the db,or coding (c#) you can ask me.
