I'm from Australia, and when in my teens back in the 80's, the very first porn magazine I ever had the pleasure of perusing through was the US PH August 1979 one. I could not believe how amazingly beautiful centrefold Diane Weber looked! I almost fainted from hormonal explosion when staring at those full-frontal shots of Diane for days and days... A school mate of mine actually lent that magazine to me, as well as an Aussie PH magazine from the 80's. I was immediately attracted to the soft-focus photo style of the 70's US PH, and have been hooked ever since. I remember thinking how boring the Aussie 80's magazine looked by comparison. Sure, you could see the pets much clearer in bright daylight or studio lights, but it just didn't draw me in the same way. Incidentally, my school mate felt the same way, although we didn't quite understand why at the time. When I look at PH shots from the 70's (and some from the 80's), I feel a bit like I'm a voyeur hiding in the shadows, looking at what I'm not supposed to see. The PH pets are invariably clothed to some extent, sometimes looking into the distance lost in thought, going about their daily business such as putting on make-up or checking themselves out in the mirror. Only in some shots do they look directly into the camera, with their private parts in full view, almost daring you to look at them. I find the photos moody, mysterious, smutty, imperfect and utterly intoxicating all at once! For me at least, it's just seems to be the right mix. Having said that, I don't think that there was/is much variety to either PH or PB at all. For example, I wish that some of the pets/playmates were older women, or had a bit more flesh on them (yes, fuller-figured women if you know what I mean). Anyway, it's 70's & 80's PH pets for me all the way, but the 70's & 80's PB playmates are certainly very beautiful too in their girl-nextdoor, airbrushed kinda way (almost vintage pin-up style). We're very lucky to have this vintage-erotica forum to access all these photos and reminisce! So thanks to all those who have made an effort to scan old magazines, scrounge the internet for photos and information, and upload everything here! Much appreciated! |

Ursula Buchfellner was in Playboy before Penthouse.
I just remembered another one: Tally Chanel posed for a Penthouse solo pictorial and later was in a few newsstand specials. Her thread: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=37523 Last edited by fordprefect739; March 23rd, 2015 at 02:22 PM.. |

My contention is that the models got paid to pose nude, and were, by the mid 70's, willing to show everything, and it was just the editorial and style decisions of Hef and Gooch that made the difference. Deanna Baker is a perfect example. She was a PMOM in playboy, shot very much girl-next-door style, then she did PH a year or two later, and looked more like the quick, easy bang next door. It's too bad there are not more clear examples, but that's my contention. The photographer hires a model to pose nude. She's already decided she's going to do it, because she needs the money and is proud of how she looks. Legs open or closed, she doesn't care as long as she gets paid. You can find various PB models in the 70's where there are one or two really graphic shots to go along with the more "innocent" ones. Here are some examples.

Patricia Ford was definitely in a Penthouse magazine, a special issue of some sort. Because I was shocked when I saw that, around 1999. I had though Patricia was only in Playboy at that time. It was probably one of her Suze shoots , as well, but it was in a Penthouse 'Girls of Penthouse' or some non-monthly version. |

What issue? I'm pretty sure that she was not. She was in Club and High Society. As far as I've seen, all of her spread shots were done by Suze Randall, who wasn't shooting for Penthouse all that much by that time.

July 2004 Penthouse Letters has about a half dozen pages of Patricia Ford from her naughtier Suze era.

I never bought Penthouse Letters, which would explain why I wouldn't have seen it.
That isn't Penthouse itself, but it's interesting none the less. |
