I can't imagine what my life would be like if one of the touchstone events of my childhood was sucking Michael Jackson's penis.

And then for years afterwards walking around hearing his music everywhere and listening to people saying how great he was.

That would give you serious issues, I think.

Default Michael Avenatti charged with trying to extort more than $20 million from Nike

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan and Los Angeles charged attorney Michael Avenatti nearly simultaneously in two criminal cases Monday, unsealing complaints that alleged he attempted to extort more than $20 million from Nike and that he committed wire and bank fraud.

Avenatti was arrested Monday afternoon in Manhattan, law enforcement officials tell CNN. He is set to appear in court later Monday.

The criminal complaint unsealed in the New York case describes a rapid investigation that unfolded over the course of just the past six days, beginning March 19, and portrays Avenatti as the brash persona likely familiar to the public from his former representation of adult-film actress Stormy Daniels.

According to the complaint, Avenatti met March 19 with attorneys for Nike and threatened to release what he said were allegations of misconduct by employees on the eve of both its quarterly earnings call and the start of the NCAA tournament.

Avenatti would disclose the allegations at a press conference, he said, according to the complaint, unless Nike made millions in payments to him and an unnamed co-conspirator by hiring them to conduct an "internal investigation," for which he later requested between $15 million and $20 million. Avenatti also allegedly demanded that Nike pay $1.5 million to an individual he claimed to represent.

But probably less serious than being raped by your father, a priest, minister, therapist, or school teacher.

Adult film actress Stormy Daniels on Monday responded to the arrest of her former attorney Michael Avenatti by saying she was “not shocked” by his behavior.

“Knowing what I know now about Michael Avenatti, I am saddened but not shocked by news reports that he has been criminally charged today,” Daniels tweeted.

The former mistress of President Donald Trump also hinted that more would be coming out soon about Avenatti and the way he conducts business.

“I made the decision more than a month ago to terminate Michael’s services after discovering that he had dealt with me extremely dishonestly and there will be more announcements to come,” she tweeted. “I ask that the media respect my decision to withhold further public comment regarding Mr. Avenatti at this time.”

Earlier this month, Daniels announced she had retained new counsel who would be reviewing “all legal matters involving me.” Minutes later, Avenatti announced that his firm was no longer representing Daniels “after lengthy discussion, thought and deliberation, as well as consultation with other professionals.” He added that he and his firm “wish Stormy all the best,” according to Politico.

In addition to Avenatti’s current legal predicaments, he was also arrested last November for allegedly striking actress Mareli Miniutti. Originally facing felony charges, the Los Angeles County District Attorney instead referred Avenatti for misdemeanor charges.

Prior to that arrest, Avenatti was referred for criminal prosecution by the Senate Judiciary Committee for his involvement in bringing wildly suspicious allegations against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Avenatti represented Julie Swetnick, who claimed Kavanaugh and his friends spiked drinks at parties while in high school in order to gang-rape women. Swetnick was also referred for criminal prosecution.

A second referral against Avenatti was also filed by the Judiciary Committee for the celebrity attorney’s attempts to bolster Swetnick’s claim with a second client alleging the same thing.

Finally, Avenatti also faces charges in Los Angeles of embezzling from clients, failing to file tax returns, and bank fraud

It should be remembered that Avenatti volunteered to represent Stormy Daniels pro bono. Sometimes, it really does pay "to look a gift horse in the mouth."

There was a strange temptation [ which I resisted of course] not to do anything because that would make it real and irreversible.

That's what anybody who knew him thought. Some years ago when he was alternately claiming to be the owner or attorney for Tully's Coffee I had the opportunity to see him in action and concluded that he was either incompetent or mentally ill (or both).

When he popped into the news as a critic of Trump, I wished he were on some other side. One of the first rules of politics is that there are some people you don't want on your side.

Speaking of which, today Uri Geller announced that he has undertaken to psychically change P.M. May's mind and get her to call another referendum.
