The codec pack I like is K-Lite-Mega, which includes the latest versions of MediaPlayer Classic and my preferred player, Media Player Classic HomeCinema. See http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm for details and downloading.

Just a note about the latest software update for VLC from videolan.org....
First, I noticed the screenshots/grabs/snapshots tool is located in a different location, under the video pull-down. Ok, not a problem. Secondly I got encoder errors which, for me, is a first time deal using VLC. Using multiple sample video formats, I tested out the feature at least 4 times. Bit of a problem there, as many of you know VLC is a great freeware tool, and screen grabbing being one of the best features. (You can specify file type and location from their default .PNG in MyPictures) Surely there is a way to solve the problem and re-configure this to get around the encoder errors, maybe such as installing another codec. For now I rolled back to my old version 1.1.11, and this is good enough for me. Back to the previous excellent quality: Just a head's up if you use and love VLC. Cheers mates. |

http://ninite.com/ Basically it installs everything for you. (well, not everything but quite a lot) Select all the programs you wish to install, click 'Get Installer', run the downloaded small install tool, and it will do it all for you (and leave out all the unwanted extras and toolbars) |

Mipony
Let me present a nice piece of coding craftsmanship, that goes by the name of Mipony.
Code:
http://www.mipony.net It's freeware. Basically, it's a download manager that automates file downloading from free host sites such as Rapidshare, Depostifiles, Mediafire... It's similar to US Downloader (which is pretty old; the author stopped developing it long ago, but it still works) and JDownloader, functionality wise. From my experience, it works much faster than JDownlader, and while it may lack some of the features JDownloader offers, it compensates it with other unique features, that I find more essential and useful, BTW. JDownloader requires Java Runtime Environment to run (as far as I remember, I haven't installed it lately, so pardon me if I am wrong), MiPONY doesn't, which is, IMHO, the main reason it works faster on my machine, since most of the Java based applications take a terrible amount of time to load/start and operate on my mighty vintage PC. From Mipony website: Quote:
Few screenshots (sorry about the quality, I acquired them from the official site; I've just reinstalled OS (due to a crash), didn't have the time to install a screen capturing software, and "Print Screen + MS Paint" isn't much of an improvement): DOWNLOAD SCREEN: In the download screen you can see the files added to the download list, their status, the file size, the download status bar, the download speed,... "ADD LINKS" SCREEN: To manually add links, you have to copy the links on the top part. It has one awesome feature: you can copy and paste any text, let's say, the whole web page, and if the option "detect links" is on (it is on by default), MiPONY will automatically recognize them, check their status, and in the lower part of the screen you can manipulate with them according to your needs (set the download location, set the priority, delete the unneeded ones, etc.) BROWSER SCREEN: Mipony includes a browser that allows you to navigate over the Internet. The advantage is that it can detect the links to download files so, in just a click you will be able to add the links to your download list. I don't use this very often, but built-in browser is another awesome feature. OPTIONS SCREEN: Here you can modify the language options, download speed limit, number of simultaneous downloads, schedule... "JOIN FILES" SCREEN: Just like the JDownloader, when a downloaded file is divided in different files, with this option you can join those files to create the original. I don't use this option. I most usually live it running over night, and more than once it has devoured all my available storage capacity, due to my practice of comparing the extracted files to the archived ones, prior to deleting the downloaded rar's/zip's, hence I'd never turn on the option of automated deletion of the archives after the extraction. PLUG-IN SCREEN: Plug-in to launch downloads directly from Firefox and Explorer (by transferring links to Mipony) or transferring web page to the Mipony built-in browser. REMOTE CONTROL: Mipony has a web interface to control it remotely. You can enter "captcha's" from your mobile device. I don't use it, but this is an amazing feature. ANDROID APP: This just covers the basics. I find this software quite handy. It works in a more simple way than JDownloader. Let me give you just one example: in JDownloader you'd have to set the priority for the files to control their downloading order. In Mypony you have that option, if it suits your needs better, but you are given the option of controlling the order by simply moving the files up and down the list. And it works faster. If something goes wrong with the download process, simple right click on the corrupted file/interrupted download process, then "Download it again" and it does just what it's meant to do, download it again. With the options "capture" and "detect links" turned on (they are set "on" by default), you don't have to copy the link, minimize your browser, maximize Mipony window and manually paste it. It's enough to "right click > copy" the link, Mipony will automatically do the rest. If you find it attractive, try it out. It's definitely worthy of some attention. I hope someone would find it useful. Cheers! Last edited by Numerous One; May 13th, 2012 at 12:19 AM.. Reason: messed-up preview pics |

a fantastic media player which has so many functions that the others do not.
It will cut and edit any video , grab images , in fact it does so much that i can list all its features. Flip video , change speed , change hue /brightness , contrast . crop . I have had many media players over the years but this is without doubt the most feature laden , and yes, you can grab any scrrenshot from a video , just track thru one frame at a a time to find the frame you want and grab it. http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4094 |
