RIP Chas.

He had a terrific musical pedigree before the Chas & Dave "Rockney" style was hit upon - and I often worry he will be remembered for that alone.

He played bass to some great guitarists - Richie Blackmore in The Outlaws and with Albert Lee in Heads Hands and Feet. He also played on records by Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis - a proficient session musician on guitar, bass, banjo and piano.

Not to be underestimated as a songwriter either. A sad loss.

This shows the level that other top flight musicians held Chas n Dave in.... The dashing duo with both Clapton & Albert Lee......

The Two Ronnies (Messrs Barker and Corbett) devoted an entiire musical number to Chas and Dave for a Christmas special. I also remember them saying they weren't allowed to finish Gertcha because the BBC found out it was a rude insult - it should be gertcha you cow-son but they were asked to drop it when appearing on Top of the Pops. It was also used in a successful commercial for brand of beer along with their version of The Sideboard Song for it- Courage Bitter.

For you Tottingham Hotspurs fans they also wrote 'Ossie's Dream' and 'Come On You Spurs' and 'Hot Shot Tottenham' for the football club but personally I liked Snooker Loopy, very catchy and showed that snooker could be fun not boring and Steve 'Interesting' Davis was in fact more than interesting

Al Matthews, most famous for playing Captain Apone in Aliens (1986) has died at a retirement home in Spain aged 75.

An an astonishing man who...

1) Served with the US Marines in Vietnam:

Quote:
"I spent six years in the United States Marine Corps; I hold thirteen combat awards and decorations, including two purple hearts. I was the first black Marine in the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of sergeant; I served with Kilo Battery, Fourth Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, of that I am very proud."
2) Was an accomplished singer who had a chart hit in the UK in 1975 with the song "Fool:

Producer Gary Kurtz has died at the age of 78.

Kurtz began his career in 1965 as an assistant director on Ride the Whirlwind. Throughout the next two years he served as an assistant director, production manager, second unit director and camera operator on several films. His career was interrupted between 1966 and 1969 when he served in the US Marines.

Kurtz and George Lucas first collaborated on American Graffiti in 1973. After shopping the script around, they landed at Universal. It became a sleeper hit that year, earning $55 million worldwide on a $1.27 million (including advertising) budget. By the 1990s, American Graffiti had earned more than $200 million in box office gross and home video sales.

Kurtz would continue working with Lucas as producer on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. He later produced The Dark Crystal with Jim Henson and Frank Oz. Kurtz's last major film he produced was Return to Oz.

Kurtz died from cancer on September 23, 2018.
