Download VLC player. It will support 4k assuming your videocard or onboard video can handle playback.

Sounds like either your computer can't handle the playback or you're using an old version of VLC which doesn't support 4k. The newest version of VLC supports 4k and almost every video format that exists so if that doesn't work you're videocard is not powerful enough.

Try MPC-HC it worked with my old under powered laptop, as long as you don't try anything fancy, like fast forwarding
