Mayfair published an article about Joan Crawford's pre-stardom activities.

In this feature they give arguments that look serious enough.

It really seems the photos are genuine.

But this in no way diminishes Joan Crawford acting talent.

It is funny to think of all the trouble the MGM took to protect their star's reputation.
They really had plenty of money to waste.
In fact, nowadays this sort of thing would be very unlikely to happen (I mean the coverup)...

(After seeing this film, Joan Crawford supposedly joked that if it hadn't been for her end-of-life conversion to Christian Science, she might have committed suicide due to her embarrassment at having been in it.)
