Not his scene it would appear. Interestingly last week a real treasure trove of Formby material including unseen photos and diaries was found in an office that was being demolished. His second wife was a real taskmaster and his manager and was always on set when Formby was around his leading women.

On the subject of cigars the programme I watched (Arena) on BBC Four also stated that it was a myth that cigars were rolled on the thighs of dusky maidens-well it made for an interesting image!
