Back pain and scoliosis, perhaps. Similar to why Debra Jo Fondren cut her looong hair..it was a strain on her neck.

Patty's 56 and only 5'3"....that's a lot of mass to carry when you're short and 21 (when she posed)...far easier to carry then comapred to now.

This comment has always flabbergasted me. Here's a woman with a 36-inch bust, posing in what was then the most famous nudie magazine in the world, and she's surprised because they emphasized her breasts. I've read a couple of similar comments from other Playmates. Does it strike you that some of these women are either terribly naive or not too bright?

Yes, at first glance her reaction to the photographs appears innocent and naive, especially since her amazing 36Fs were natural. You might expect a Playmate not to be surprised that her tremendous bustiness would steal the show.

But only four or five years before she posed for Playboy, Patti Farinelli was mocked and taunted by her schoolmates as "Flatty Patti" because she had no boobs to speak of. Then, when her bust-line developed at a rapid rate, the same bullies made fun of her enormous frontage.

So I think there are reasons why she was sensitive about being defined by her tits alone, and being seen as nothing more than a "busty bimbo". She had a fine ass also, but this got little attention in the pictorial. That's understandable, of course, but Miss December 1981 seemed to think a more balanced presentation of her physical charms could have been provided to readers.

IMHO, the Playboy photographer did the best he could with what he had. He had a playmate with a tan, a magnificent set of tits, and a beautiful, thick, dark bush. The photos highlighted those, and because of that, Patti is one of the all-time PB favorites. I think the Lady Doth Protest Too Much.

Her comments about the pictorial were made in 1997, during a Cyber-Club chat. She said that, overall, "she really liked" the photographs, but that a few of them caused her some embarrassment. It's not surprising that, 16 years later, her perspective had changed a bit.

She added that, if she had been a born-again Christian in 1981, she wouldn't have posed for Playboy.

None of this changes the reality that Playboy readers would have felt short-changed if the focus of the pictorial had been anything other than Miss December's glorious jugs. Their marketability was underlined in the December 1983 edition, when Patti featured in a double-page subscription advertisement.
