Wedlock (1991)
Trailer After a heist, Frank Warren (Rutger Hauer) is betrayed by his partners in crime, Sam (James Remar) and Noelle (Joan Chen), and caught by the cops. He is sentenced to 12 years imprisonment at Camp Holliday where each convict is given an electronic collar containing an explosive device. The inmates are electronically connected in pairs. Should one inmate be more than 100 yards away from his "collar partner", both their collars will blow. Warren's partner is Tracey Rigg (Mimi Rogers) with whom he escapes. They are pursued by the authorities and Sam and Noelle who are after the loot from the aforementioned heist. Lots of bad acting here, also from Mr. Hauer. Sometimes I get the impression that he does it on purpose, as an act of protest against the great injustice that he is forced to waste his talent in shitty B movies. Wedlock (also known as Deadlock) can be both shitty and funny. |

It's just out on DVD so I have to watch it again
Kong: Skull Island (2017) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3731562/ A brilliant adaptation of the classic King Kong tale with a superb cast, plenty action and great creature effects, set in the days immediately following the end of the Vietnam war with John Goodman recruiting a group of soldiers to investigate an apparently uncharted remote island in the Pacific known as Skull Island. Samuel L J is the career soldier who jumps at the chance to continue his post Vietnam career. The music is awesome. The post credits sequence promises a revival of some great Japanese monster bouts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP0-9FBs2Rs&vl=en https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9zv_-510zs

Here's a chick that you may be glad is missing from your life Ice Queen (2005) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228040/ A convoy transporting an odd specimen, a frozen prehistoric woman is attacked and the subject (who looks quite modern when being examined ) is suited up to be flown to a laboratory but she wakes up on route, attacks the pilot and forces a crash landing in a ski resort. Total utter nonsense but fun just the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guxVouj1WIU

Wakefield
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5195412/ Plot: Howard Wakefield (Bryan Cranston), has a loving wife (Jennifer Garner), two daughters, a prestigious job as a Manhattan lawyer, and a comfortable home in the suburbs. But inwardly he's suffocating, and eventually he snaps and goes into hiding in his garage attic leaving his family to wonder what happened to him. Howard survives by becoming a hobo, scavenging for food at night, while at all times he secretly studies the lives of his wife, their children and their neighbors. I was looking forward to Wakefield - I came across the trailer for this film while becoming aggrieved about another movie trailer (sorry, but the golden shower scene in the trailer for "Girls Trip" was a turn-off for me - but that's another story). Anyway the concept for Wakefield reminded me in part of a classic comedy series from the 1970s - The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin: what if one tires of an life considered unsatisfying and humdrum, and just simply become invisible to family and friends? Bryan Cranston gives a good performance, but ultimately I was left with the impression that Howard Wakefield was being cruel and selfish. Finally I felt rather cheated by the film's ending (which I won't reveal here).
