A lot of you guys have bought the Kool Aid and would be well served to do some research. And I don't mean reading more of the corporate controlled propaganda that is being fed to you based on the data harvesters results.

Seems the only free places are rural places that are over an hour from the nearest settlement, and several hours away from any big city of over a million.

Problems in SF Bay Area arise from:

1) strong economy provides more high income & high skilled Jobs than we can fill.

2) high property values means A) banks and builders prefer to build high end housing, and its corollary B) nobody wants to reduce their property values by siting low income housing in their neighborhood. Oakland is stepping up to the plate and opening many new projects, but we have an army of homeless ourselves.

San Francisco is particularly difficult because what hasn't been developed in the 46.89 square miles of the peninsula is parks, mountain, beach, or eroding cliffs. Any new housing requires tearing down existing housing or commercial space. Complicating the problem further is that that quite a bit of existing land is fill on top of bay mud. A recently built 58 story high rise housing luxury condos has settled unevenly and will cost a fortune to stabilize.

3) The traditional tolerance for eccentricity in the area is being exploited by jerks.

4) the wealth of the area provides money to subsidize the jerks in the form of government and charitable handouts.

5) the mild climate makes it possible for people to survive rather comfortably without housing.

According to your British press they either aren't being provided housing or are displacing the native born, who are pushed out to the streets. There seems to be some concern also about packing your elderly in to fire traps.

Earlier this week, not in this one but another politically based thread things got a little out of hand, the end result was several post removals and one member given a temporary "holiday" from here after a comment went way over anything acceptable here.

It's been said before, we are very lucky we allow these threads here, many forums won't, our sister site won't. Be careful, you all know I closed and removed this one before. My only aim as a mod is to keep members coming back, help us mods and yourselves make that happen

That's enough for a start. There is room for disagreement in policies and not all are alarming. But many are very much what has been called the "Deep State" or "military industrial complex." If these guys are cheering Trump on, one has to wonder if his whole act is smoke and mirrors. Some of these outfits trace their origins to people who were funding and clandestinely supplying Hitler until the day after Pearl Harbor.

Full disclosure: I have a deep and abiding distrust of the influence of the State of Israel. It is my belief that the interests of the United States are quite different from those of the those of Israel.

I also wonder about this whole "War on Terror." We are all buddy-buddy with the Saudis, who are bankrolling al-Qaeda and ISIS and the Taliban. These are all Sunni groups as are the Saudis. Iran is Shiite. So, the US is lined up with the sworn enemies of Iran, which has committed few acts against the United States, while our "allies" are responsible for the World Trade bombings, the USS Cole bombing, the Benghazi attack, etc. Given our history in the Middle East it was amazing than the Iranians were willing to make a deal. Predictably, we welshed on it. "As long as the grass shall grow and the waters run."

I am loathe to embrace conspiracy theories but something is not adding up.

You hit a nerve. I worked in San Francisco. It sucked 30 years ago; it sucked more 20 years ago; it sucked really big time 10 years ago. The jobs paid well, the offices were nice, the work was interesting, but running a gauntlet of dirty, belligerent beggars every day was disgusting.
