Can anyone do justice to this image of Eileen O'Neill?

I'm all thumbs with GIMP when it comes to making
adjustments/corrections of this kind.

+ Found the original ad it was taken from, there's a bit more detail on it, if that helps anyone?

I was hoping a GIMP wizard could render an adjusted image
to the best extent possible....in terms of clearness, crispness,
good definition and appropriate coloring for skin tone, etc.

The image from your original ad is much better than the one
I submitted. I colorized it and dialed down the saturation a bit..
here's the adjusted ad image...

Perhaps someone has the skill to further improve on this image.

Here is a slightly different color variant of the advert. You can use this as a reference for the flesh tones in the black and white ad. You will have to highlight the sections of her skin with the magic wand function in your colorized version and adjust the hue, tint and color temperature accordingly to match it to this version. For the swimsuit, it should not be as complex. You can sample the color from the color ad and do a color fill to turn the swimsuit from lavender to red.

Wow. Well, the original pic is a pulp paper cheapo mag ad. The woman you're interested in was cut out with a pair of scissors to pasteup the mag page. Then it sat for 15-20 years, yellowing the paper. I'll tryout the page pic, dont hold your hopes up high, her face is totally blown out, and any texture has been wiped out by the screen printing.
First thing to do is desaturate, then go hunting detail with layer modes.

Well, here's what I can do in an hour or so, all by hand.

If we had enough interest, VEF could have an art/edit section for folks to work on stuff together. In my experience, most folks would rather run a pic thru some AI crap, but you never know. The place has been here 20 years, if there was interest it'd have been done by now.

I'll be real interested in their methods if someone can get better out of that mag ad than that. If they can post the process, i'll see if I can adopt it myself. Editting pics you gotta glomb any new trick you can.

Also, if you want the swimsuit a different color, just let me know. I saved it as a couple separate layers.
