Another problem is who are ready to pay and for what type of content these days. PlayboyPlus as of today isn't something I'm very fond of, but they have their own userbase, just like other adult websites such as Met-Art, Hegre-Art, Femjoy etc. That's what paying public is willing to consume. And I'm not sure it could be applied to your vision, unfortunately. The majority of people these days doesn't care about legacy Playboy content (and any other retro stuff), they want new stuff only as a daily updates for a fixed monthly fee. Quantity over quality: sets may be unimaginative and cheap, but they have to be everyday. Your beloved Playboy videos take a lot of money to produce. That's why PEI parted with Trikilis, and that's why Mindgeek doesn't hurry to invite Cope or whatever, to shoot videos for PlayboyPlus. |

Appealing to the majority would be a futile endeavor since the internet splintered pop culture. Playboy will never have a fanbase as large as it once did. In rebuilding the brand they would necessarily be seeking a niche market.
"Hipsters" may be either too broad or too narrow a term for the market I think Playboy could capture. I notice this about many young men: they enjoy exploring and discovering cultural artifacts from Mid Century onward. Some have presented Hunter S. Thompson or Vonnegut to me as authors they 'discovered.' Encouraged me to check out 'obscure' musicians such as David Bowie. Extolled the Planet of The Apes movies as forgotten gems. These are people who display a certain intellectual curiosity. Playboy should be seeking them out. I have chatted with guys in their twenties who discovered Sixties and Seventies Centerfolds and prefer them over contemporary Playmates. I created a playlist in MyCircle with a series of vignettes culled from Playboy videos and some of the younger guys considered those videos a revelation. My own discovery of Vintage Playboy during the 1980s came from the 30th Anniversary Newsstand Specials. That led me to seeking back issues at fleamarkets. That led to me becoming a collector and a dedicated fan. I think Playboy Plus has been a creative failure. I think a rebuild of the Playboy brand ought to be an explicit turn from the mostly boring washed out photography they have presented. There must be talented photographers whose vision is a reaction to the artistry of Bunny Yeager, Pompeo Posar, etc. Current technology makes production of new material, both photo and video, much cheaper than before. There is a great deal of material that is already produced that may be discoverable by a younger audience if the opportunity is presented. I have no advice on what Playboy ought to do with the Print Edition. Perhaps, suspend it or make it a high quality art magazine. Best quality paper and printing and then charge whatever it costs to pay for the production. Advertise more high end products in the pages. People might want it around they might not. I think they ought to be concentrating on trying to create a single marquis website. Offering free material draws people to the website. Offering erotic content on that is singular in nature gets some of them to hand over their money. I do like Playboy Videos. I don't think anything else offers their particular appeal. I can't imagine that the future of erotica is only women spreading their legs wider and wider in artless photographs and videos of cocks pistoning repetitively in and out of the various orifices of apparent bored abuse victims. There must still be a market for art in erotica. I think Playboy is uniquely positioned to cater to that market. |

only one thing can save IMO, and that is if they had secret archive of PMs of 70's, 80's and 90's (before shaving) and released glorious NEW more explicit sets, of course this is just fantasy but i can only imagine my fav's like Sherri Arnett, Karen Witter and Kelly Tough doing old-style Penthouse type sets.

My saying...

Last year I tried to gain access to the archives of the German Playboy and I found out that the destroyed at least the whole 70s and 80s archives when they moved to another address. So I would be not so sure that the old material at playboy still exists. |

Very late to this thread...but honestly Playboy article content must be rewrapped again with the most beautiful American GNDs. That is a huge void. PB has been pulling Met-Art Euro models..stop it! What is the US version of Met-Art? I don't think there is one. And honestly is there not a void for well done nude Female Celebs? PB always caught the best on their way up or their way down. Who owns that today? Maxim...but always PG where in Playboy you find the perfect balance of the R rating.

Might be pure economics - if you can pay some hot Russian chick $500 for a new magazine shoot, vs. the $5000 the American chick wants, what are you going to do?

1} Kill airbrushing. Kill it dead.
2} Shoot on film. 3} Ban silicone. {I'd ban razors too, but I am a purist} And finally: 4} Run dual PM@M, with the second "centerfold" being a a retro PM@M for that month from a corresponding year by the last digit. eg next month would be May so May 67/77/87/97 but no more recent than 20 years but here's the kicker: Do not use any pictures that have been previously used.

How can you save any porn magazine now days? It will never be as profitable as it was pre internet. Way too much free porn online.
Wankers were the bread and butter of early Playboy. They will never get the numbers they had before. |

Every month give away a "Night with the PMoM." Inside each months copy include a ticket, or entry form, whatever you want to call it. Buyer of copy fills it out, sends it in, a winner is drawn. Winner gets a free trip to LA to spend one night in a luxury hotel, with free room service, with whomever was the centerfold for the corresponding month of the entry form. You would also have to imply...in such a way that everyone knows what you're saying, but it's still legal...that the winner not only would be spending the night with the centerfold, he would be getting some. Do that, and you won't be able to print enough magazines to keep up with the demand.
