I don't think I've ever heard of Paulus the woodgnome, so I've just had a quick look and I think there's a bit voiced by "Eccles" from the Goon show in it.
I saw a few episodes of the freewheelers a while ago on freeview channel 81. Wendy Padbury was a fit little minx, who at some point married Melvyn Hayes who was one of the so-called "puffs" from "It ain't half hot mum!"

Aahh, memories :-)
Paulus was a Dutch cartoonstrip in a newspaper in 1946 made by Jean Dulieu (real name Jan van Oort). https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulus_de_boskabouter (in dutch) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Dulieu (in dutch) Here a short translation of part of the first Wiki-page: The series became popular enough to warrant a series of books and later a radio play and even a TV-series. The books were translated into a.o. German, English, Swedish and Japanese. Three series were made for newspapers: 1st series from 1946 to 1957 with over 3500 episodes. 2nd series from 1963 to 1967 with over 1400 episodes. 3rd series had 23 stories. There were 32 books made, 900 radio plays between 1955 and 1964. From 1 october 1967 to 29 december 1968 thirtynine TV episodes were made, and later exported to the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. All voices were done by the author and all puppets were also made by him. From 1974 to 1976 a new TV-series was made, this time by a well-known studio in the Netherlands. However, they adapted the stories and changed characters. The author was very unhappy with this. Good luck with the translation of those Wikipages :-) |
