Avidemux won't start my edit beginning where I try to cut, and every time I open this program it tells me there's an update that I've already downloaded. I'm using windows 7 & ublock Origin. Please help !

Not sure about your first problem but the second one is easy to solve. Just disable "check for update" in preferences.

Regarding the first one: Did you set "start marker" and "end marker" beforehand?

I hit edit, I play video, set marker a, play, hit marker b. Then I save.

I use it all the time. No problems whatsoever.

Set Marker A, move to where you want with the slider, Set Marker B - then you Cut with the Del key or the menu option.

Then you Save.

The only other thing I can think of is sometimes it will say something like your edit is not on a key frame the file you are trying to create/save will be corrupted etc. other than that if you're getting nowhere and still getting the update message you could always try removing the program and re-installing and thn disabling the update option immediately.

Sometimes the edit function won't work because there are no key frames, if you convert the whole file to a different format, you can usually edit it, or just use something else for that particular file.

As already suggested, if you are trying to cut / trim any video without quality degradation, the start marker of any "cut" must be the key frame, which can be sometimes few seconds apart and also be not exactly where you want to start your cut.

I had this problem previously, when I simply could not trim the exact moment in the video. AFAIK, there's no workaround, except re encoding video (but then you lose quality). I really like Avidemux, but this is pretty common problem if you google it. Maybe other editors are handling cut / trim differently? Like handbrake for example? I'm not sure.
