Default "Skyfall" Discussion Thread-Spoilers!!!

I think Skyfall has been released in all the major territories of the world. If you haven't seen Skyfall yet, please stop reading now as this thread will give away major plot points.

I thoroughly enjoyed Skyfall up to the middle when I felt that a major plot hole knocked it down several notches.

The whole plot point of Sliva "meant to get caught" makes no sense to me. Until Severine takes Bond to the island, no one knows who he is. Revealing his identity to Bond and "allowing" his capture, just means that when he does escape MI6, everyone knows what he looks like and what his plan is, allowing Bond to stave off the assassination attempt of M at the inquest.

If he had just kept his ID a secret he could have infiltrated the inquest with ease, humiliated M and killed her on the spot. Now that would have sent the film off in a totally different direction, but if Silva is as smart as he is made out to be, this would have made a lot more sense than what occurs, where it veers off course and Silva has henchman stashed at every location, and has conveniently planted a bomb in the tube (without anyone noticing of course) knowing that Bond will chase him down THAT tunnel just as a (conveniently) out of service tube train arrives as the exact moment Silva needs it

I have more quibbles with the plotting but lets take on this one first.

The questions that need answering for me are:
a) How did 007 survive after being shot by Moneypenny and how did he end up with that girl. Where did he meet her?

b) How did Silva escape from his prison(I have a theory about it to be discussed later)

c) Why was M killed off and why wasn't her funeral shown?

Silva had revenge in mind which was why he wanted to be found-his only thought was to kill M. Everything he did was a smokescreen to get M into the open.

I'd also like to know why the house was called Skyfall-I know his parents were killed in a climbing accident but nowhere was it explained why the house was called that.

I have issues with Moneypenny being an ex sniper..... don't follow with every other version of the character. Not against having her as eye candy though, she is indeed easy on the eye that Naomie Harris..... lol.

Also agree that M being killed off is a huge mistake, unless Dame Judi has just had enough, in which case, thanks for everything Dame Judi, you will be sadly missed.

a) don't know but he may been "winded" rather than fatally shot

b) When Q opened the computer file it in turn infected mi6's net and opened the prison door, which was locked electronically, rather than with a nice big chubb padlock on an extension arm well away from his meddling fingers, just like this one, over a £100 quids worth, called the battleship.

My biggest question was how he knew there was grill in the floor despite the fact sis had had to move, and the cell could have been built any where in the complex, and why they built a cell for a very high risk detainee in a room with an escape route except as a plot device for him to escape out of.

c) I think the killing off of M and the destruction of the Aston was to act as a closure for this part of the Bond. New M new Moneypenny the return of the old style leather and wood style offices seem to me to be an end of the new labour cool Britannia Pierce Brosnan bond and onto a new hopefully more authentic bond, as Craig is probably the best bond yet (hear the Connery fans scream) and bond should be colder and less flamboyant than he's been portrade before.

Ah right my theory was he used that metal mouth piece to cut through the door and escape but then it would have aroused the suspicion of the guards so it couldn't have been that. Nice idea about closure and the fact that Bond was beginning to return to the original roots with M as a man and the padded door to M's office. I always thought that Dame Judi was a good choice for M, a woman could play it just as effectively as a man-she will be missed.

Agreed dame Judi did M well but remember in 3 years time she would have been M for 20 years and no recent MI6 head stayed for more than 5 or 6. As for his false teeth, who's were they jaws' cut down to size??

I was pretty disappointed in the whole film really. A BIG Bond fan since I was a child, as much as I really do like Craig as Bond, the last two films have been really poor stories. I hated Quantum of Let's Jump On the Be Green Wagon, and unfortunately this one really dragged on and on and on and.. you get the picture! The Intro was ok, loved the rooftop stuff, but it was over too quick and no real explanation of Bond and how he survived and treated his 'nurse' like shit. The 2nd act ran ok for a while but then went stupid, the villain, like QofLJOtBGW, was pretty ordinary too, long time to go nowhere and the train was so fake looking. 3rd and final act, hmm, could have cut this in half, long time waiting for nothing much to happen. Silva could have rocked up with an Apache helicopter with rockets and shot the crap out of the place instead of a band of 'you're all going to die' henchmen. Crap ending too. Understand the reboot thing, it's in style for everything these days, but it should have happened when Craig took over, new M, new Q, new Moneypenny, not 3rd film in. Didn't like the new Q, shit geek not credible enough, and needed more gadgets!! Hopefully, and I REALLY do hope, the next one will be a Bond film not an Action film with someone called Bond in it like this one was.. the chance is there! my 2c

Judi Dench is suffering health problems, including going blind. She's retiring from acting from what I've heard and even if she doesn't she's definitely no longer willing or able to meet the demands of filming more Bond films.

Yes, DTravel, I had read this on other Bond forums, and in looking back she didn't really move around all that much, a lot of time behind desks and in cars. Plus losing your eyesight would make it terribly difficult to learn your lines.

Back to the others:

1) Greenman, I think Bond was wearing body armour in the opening chase. Thus the shot would knock him off the train, but not wound him. Note than when he digs the shrapnel out of his shoulder there is no evidence of a wound on the other shoulder. This would also explain M's insistence that Eve "take the bloody shot", knowing Bond had protection. The long fall off the bridge is another thing entirely. Mighty far fetched for me, but others have pointed out the villain in DAD goes over a waterfall trapped in a hovercraft and still survives. My feeling is that this is NOT a Pierce Brosnan Bond and therefore "more serious" rules apply.

2) I too am perplexed by the next scene. Where is he? How did he get there? Who is the woman? And precisely what is he using for money?

3) I, as well, assume Silva is freed by the computer virus. How he kills the guards outside his cell is another poser, however.
