Apologies for the delay (life intrudes). Have listened all the way through and started again. For an audience boot, pretty well done. Don't miss out on this, gents!

That's some sad shit. "Dweezil" could suffice, tho.. not like anyone is going to confuse him with someone else. How about: "Dweezil Plays His Dad"?

Certainly better than any of my contemporary attempts with an old piano-key portable cassette. One of my attempts (1971) which actually captured a young Gary Moore with Colosseum and, on the other side was the first public performances of Black Dog and Stairway (by you know who) which was radically outclassed by a much better version from the same gig found online about ten years ago. Which was lucky because my tape chewed up shortly afterwards. But John Hiseman and Gary's gig is lost forever, at least to me. |

Just a quick aside... If anyone has never checked out Zappa Plays Zappa or whatever Dweezil is forced to call it these days: do so.
Dweezil spent several years in the woodshed practicing to get his chops up to play his father's material and learn Frank's sense of phrasing/improvisation. It paid off in spades! I had the pleasure of seeing ZPZ on the ProgNation tour several years ago. When Dweezil took his solos I closed my eyes, and I swear I could see Frank playing the solos. --

from some of the articles I've read, Gail (under some bad non-family advice) is almost wholly to blame for it. the simple fact that she decided to split the Zappa Family Trust into anything BUT 4 equal parts, so each Zappa kid got 25%, is a real head scratcher! this is a RS article about it from August 2016, maybe gives some more background; http://www.rollingstone.com/music/fe...y-feud-w431684 either way, I don't think Frank would be very happy about it. those fekkin' kids! |

Well, just fresh from watching the Roxy show I strongly recommend to any waiverers to just see it. Great music crossing more boundaries than you could shake a stick at, great playing by the whole band, a great selection of Mothers' music and great fun to experience.
Being the sort of geekish nerd who bothers reading what used to be called sleeve notes, I really didn't notice the herculean efforts that went in to re-syncing up the video and audio over multiple cameras and three separate shows. All that was invisible, which is the highest praise. One of the great live concerts, imho. |

Some quotes from the Master:
“Definition of rock journalism: People who can't write, doing interviews with people who can't think, in order to prepare articles for people who can't read.” “Interviewer: 'So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?' FZ: 'You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?” “A drug is not bad. A drug is a chemical compound. The problem comes in when people who take drugs treat them like a license to behave like an asshole.” “If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.” “Art is making something out of nothing, and selling it.” “There's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over.” “Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff.” “The United States is a nation of laws, badly written and randomly enforced.” “You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline - it helps if you have some kind of football team, or some nuclear weapons, but in the very least you need a beer.” “Tobacco is my favorite vegetable.” “Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.” “The only difference between a cult and a religion is the amount of real estate they own” “For the record, folks; I never took a shit on stage and the closest I ever came to eating shit anywhere was at a Holiday Inn buffet in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1973.” One of the reasons I'm such a fan.. unabashedly telling it like it is.

I highly recomend "the Real Frank Zappa Book". You'll find you'll get through it in no time.
The New York Post said, "This book belongs in every home". |
