I live something like 250 miles away from the fires, but the smoke has darkened our skies, the smell of fire is in the air and I could swear the fire is just a few miles away.

Not really surprising-Australia is an average of 1400 miles from NZ-and with ocean separating us-but we still get darkened skies and extra colourful dawns and sunsets in NZ when they have bushfires in Oz-so 250 miles is right next door comparatively speaking-you might even expect to see some ashfall from the fires where you are.

Today is Friday the 13th considered in Western culture to be an unlucky day. Millions of Americans won't even leave their apartments or houses because they think that they will be hurt by mystical forces on this day. What is the opinion of the citizens of the UK about this day?

All I know is that there will be 13 guaranteed UK millionaires in the morning thanks to the Euromillions lottery draw.

What is also certain is that I won't be one of them.
