Me, I'll be a bit more brief. Long ago I saw Wendigo's review of "Trollhunter" on this thread http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...er#post1915040 put it on my list of movies to watch. This is a find. Its wonderfully bureaucratic and surprising, a bit in the District 9 vein. Highly recommended good fun, completely original. |

American Assassin. Very good up to date version of the book. Sets it up well for an excellent film franchise/series based on Vince Flynn's novels.

I compagni (1963)
Trailer After an accident in which a colleague loses his arm, the workers of a textile factory in 19th century Turin attempt to organize and demand a workday of less than 14 hours, for it is fatigue that leads to accidents. The workers Pautasso (Folco Lulli), Martinetti (Bernard Blier), and Cesarina (Elvira Tonelli) decide to form a committee that's supposed to talk to the factory management. But their request is denied and they agree to gain the bosses' attention with a walkout. When push came to shove, most of the workers have a change of heart because of the lack of experience in labor activism. In the meantime, Professor Sinigaglia (Marcello Mastroianni), a labor activist and fugitive, arrives in town, offering his help on how to organize a strike. Deep and beautifully told social drama with lots of humor distinctive of Mario Monicelli films. I compagni (English title: The Organizer) was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars in 1964. |

I did, I proofread, normally I don't, but I cared so much for the review, I thought it was necessary.

I will give a "Director's Cut" of the review, something really short. The movie's quality falls under how people are willing to accept the liberties taken and the differences between the book of the same name, and the movie. So, going into the movie knowing of some liberties taken and discrepancies, I had an open mind, and found myself laughing for most of the movie. Entertainment value is high, and I'll find it entertaining for reasons slightly different than the general audience. Namely references to The Room, quotes lifted from the book, those "insider" things. If you know nothing about The Room, the movie will probably blow your mind. If you watched The Room, but haven't read the book, your mind will still be blown, but then you'll want to read the book. That's the new order of consumption, watch The Room, then this movie, then the book. I went after 9 viewings of The Room, and 41 listens of the audiobook version. I basically knew too much, but I still loved it. The recreations from The Room are incredible, James Franco's best performance in my opinion, solid acting throughout with a surprise admiration for Ari Graynor as Juliette Danielle. Facial expressions, I couldn't get over how she was a better Lisa than the original Juliette. It's too short, but I have that bias, I wanted to see more, I wanted it to be darker, I just remembered co-author Greg Sestero said in some interview that he would've made it a bit darker, but he of course stands behind it, Tommy Wiseau stands behind it. Though now his new spiel is, without saying his name, calling James Franco a "chicken," "cheep cheep cheep." It's in reference to his mic-blocking him at the Golden Globes. Dave Franco's fake beard, that FALSE Bryan Cranston story, and some liberties I wasn't so happy with notwithstanding, it's just so entertaining. I'll definitely watch it again, double feature it with The Room, also will listen to the commentary. Tommy Wiseau is part of it, and I heard a story where one of the writers either asked Tommy or made a comment about The Room being bad. Tommy cut him off and roasted him, and this was all during the commentary, so I can't wait to catch that. The brevity in this post is basically the movie version of The Disaster Artist, my full review is the size of a book anyways. |

Attack of the Mushroom People aka Matango (1963)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057295/ From Toho studios, six people are on a sailing holiday with an experienced skipper when they are hit by a storm and shipwrecked on a mysterious island. The only food they can find are mushrooms but by eating them they slowly turn into giant mushrooms. Far better than it sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI5JjU0r8BU www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ysl4k

Banditi a Orgosolo (1960)
Michele Cossu, a shepherd from Orgosolo in Sardinia, has a flock of sheep he's still paying off. One day a group of bandits show up and turn his life into a nightmare, though unintentionally. The fugitives arrive with stolen pigs and hide them close to Michele's sheepfold. He doesn't want to rat them out but refuses to get involved with them as well. As the police come closer to their hideout, the bandits split, leaving Michele with the stolen pigs. Charged of a crime he didn't commit, Michele decides to flee to the hills because he can't leave his flock as they're his sole means of existence. Definitely a feature film, Bandits of Orgosolo is filmed in a documentary style. Much of the cast are not professional actors but actual people, locals from the areas where the film was made. This includes the leading man, Michele Cossu. This is another social drama except that it's not set in an urban industrial meat grinder but focuses on the harsh life conditions of the people in semi-nomadic, mountainous Sardinia where history elapses in a much slower tempo. State authority and its laws and rules do not exist in the minds of these people. Their loyalty is only to their families and communities. Bandits of Orgosolo is a very atmospheric film that could easily pass as a psychological thriller. |

Death of Stalin ( 2017 )
This is a simply wonderful movie . The Death of Stalin film focuses on the power struggles that ensued within Stalin’s inner circle following the dictator’s death in 1953. For all its dark humour - the real masterstroke of Iannucci’s film is when the director drops the comedy and instead focuses on the perilous stakes facing many of the film’s characters. As with the director’s previous works, the comedy stems from the scheming and backstabbing of its central political figures, here brought beautifully to life by a uniformly excellent cast. Simon Russell Beale is particularly impressive as the odious Lavrentiy Beria and Steve Buscemi delivers a wonderful performance as Nikita Khrushchev. Jason Isaacs also deserves praise. The actor’s abrasive, Yorkshire-accented General Zhukov all but steals the film’s final act. This is Political satire at its best. Palo will love it |
