Interesting story. I was however disturbed by this part of the article...

Is it really an offense to take pictures in a National Park?

In this instance is wasn't that they were taking pictures, it was that they were taking pictures of themselves performing illegal activities. Like walking on top of a live geyser, thereby damaging it. In order to do that they had to leave a boardwalk with clearly posted signs telling people to not leave the boardwalk for their own safety and the protection of the land, plants and animals there.

Ok thanks guys. I get the illegal stuff when damaging national treasures is concerned, as for putting oneself in harms way ...

If they are daft enough...

On the other hand it does cost taxpayers plenty to rescue or recover these idiots (like a coach (responsible adult) taking kids into caves likely to get flooded)

I also get the commercial aspect, but who "owns" nature, and who therefore should be able to issue permits. (Last one rhetorical)

Finally these places are special, and I for one would not like them to be damaged in any way.

As for a random thought, why do all of those plastic hose connectors and guns leak?
