État de siège (1972)
Trailer Philip Michael Santore (Yves Montand), a USAID bureaucrat, is kidnapped by a group of revolutionaries in Montevideo, Uruguay. Though he insists on ignorance, Santore's actual role is gradually exposed: he was sent to either train the government's countinsurgent death squads or to serve as a liaison between the US and Latin American governments who send their people to the US for extended training. Back in their homelands, they're torturing and assassinating leftist students and union representatives, all in the name of the "free world" and "Christian civilization". Costa-Gavras has made some great political thrillers and State of Siege might be the best among them. You can't expect a feature film to provide you with even a basic political education but it can point you in a direction. If you follow a path, what discoveries you make and what conclusions you draw is entirely up to you. But the events depicted in this film and other films on this topic were reality in South America. Oligarchs with business ties to the US were running most of the continent. They were selling out their countries to protect their privilege. State of Siege is based on actual incident in 1970 when US Embassy official Dan Mitrione was kidnapped and killed by the Tupamaro guerrillas. |

Don Mitrione was a torture expert,Had the guerillas known what His actual role was,His death might well have taken longer..

The Accountant
Wiki IMDB Rotten Tomatoes Shockingly good for me. I have family with special needs, similar to highly functional autism. I must read this book. You may not like the actors in this film, but I give them a 9/10 for effort and story. |

I watched "Secretary" (2002) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretary_(2002_film) - on cable. Maggie Gyllenhaal - James Spader in a S&M relationship. Weird movie, not being into S&M, didn't really understand it.
Maggie Gyllenhaal looks hot in the film and she does total nudity. Since this film is 15 years before she did the HBO series "The Deuce" - she looks way better than the tired old hooker she plays in that show. I'd give it 3 of 5 just for her. Spader is fine as the weird guy - but he can do that role in his sleep. |

Super Troopers 2.
I had a dilemma. The opening UK date was one day into the World Cup. Football must come first but, boy, I wanted to watch this. My local cinema isn't showing but there was an early showing 10 miles away. It gave me 20 mins to get home for Uruguay v Egypt. I managed it. S.P 2 is worth the wait. Not the best film in the world but funny enough. Paying homage in large amounts to the first as you'd expect. The premise is weak but allows for a lot of digs at Canadians. For Brits think England/Scotland. Much of the chemistry seems to have disappeared over the years. I'd put it below Beerfest and Slammin' Salmon but the blu ray will sit on my shelf the moment it's released.

Insidious (2010)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1591095/ The next film is out on DVD now so it's time to revisit the first 3 films before I watch that starting with the first one. After a series of strange events around the home of Josh & Renai Lambert their son Dalton lapses into a coma. Months down the line, a move to a new house and still the weirdness continues, there is no progress with his medical condition but a series of apparitions leads them to contact psychic help, cue Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier who is called in to save Dalton's soul https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuZnRUcoWos

Gagarin: First in Space (2013)
Trailer On April 12, 1961, the Soviets sent the first man into space. Yuri Gagarin (Yaroslav Zhalnin), the son of peasants, made it into a small group of candidates, selected from over three thousand fighter pilots. The Soviet Union's leading rocket engineer, Sergei Korolev (Mikhail Filippov), was convinced that Gagarin was the right man for the job who'd go on to make history aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft. A very disappointing feature film about this tiny but ballsy guy who is one of mankind's greatest heroes. The Russians have every reason to be proud of the achievements of their space program but Yuri Gagarin deserves a better tribute than this corny, patriotic schmaltz. Sadly, Gagarin: First in Space looks like an emulation of a Ron Howard film. |

I was trying to watch this:
Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6513656/ 1. it's a piece of shit movie. 2. It's only getting direct to DVD or streaming release in the USA. 3. It's being released in China theatrically first because it's one of the many recent so called Hollywood made in China movies including The Mummy, the last Mission Impossible movie, the last Pacific Rim movie, the last Transformer movie, The Wall, Furious 7, Kong Skull Island and many others where you will see a handful of Chinese actors and actresses in it. I think it's a standing rule now. You, Hollywood, want us Chinese companies to help you produce a movie, you will have to put X number of Chinese Actors and Actresses in it even if they don't get much of a speaking role in it. Like the Chinese actress in Kong Skull Island. She didn't do anything. 4. Why Stallone would agree to be in this other for a quick paycheck and not even care that it doesn't get a US theatrical release, it's beyond me. Last edited by Wendigo; June 16th, 2018 at 10:52 AM.. Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2226417/ Following on from the events in the first movie, Elise is now dead and the police suspect Josh strangled her, the last scenes of Insidious hint that Josh is not the same person Renai married. Renai is being interrogated by the police over Elise's murder but the police are not able to find enough evidence to charge anyone and do not believe Renai when she tells them they are being haunted. Whilst the police are looking for clues in the old house, the Lamberts move into the home of the mother Lorraine Lambert. Again moving house does not help as Renai keeps seeing a woman in white and Josh's behaviour gets weirder. Enter Elise's partners Specs and Tucker as they try to uncover why the family is being haunted. The sinister secret of the serial killer known as "The Bride in black", the connection to an old patient Parker Crane who committed suicide by jumping out of a hospital window, a Norman Bates style mother/son relationship, there is just so much going on here. Again the ending hints at something even darker waiting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBbi4NeebAk
