Default Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Finally a proper british zombie film, very modern, and complete.
I give this film an easy 10/10. Love it time after time.
So many different references going on, so much satire, and original humor.
Classic original: "You've got red on you".

I classify some of the scenes in this film as "I love that"
Such as when Simon's walking to the store oblivious to the activity around him.

I adore Simon Pegg in all of his films.
Special note to his writing and performance in the Star Trek film,
where he interacts with the alien, played by Sofia Boutella.
After his explanation of his name, she deduced to call him Montgomery Scotty.

Die Mörder sind unter uns (1946)

Preview

It's 1945 and Berlin lies in ruins. Susanne Wallner (Hildegard Knef), a young artist and death camp survivor, returns to her devastated apartment in Berlin. There she finds the former military surgeon Dr. Hans Mertens (Ernst Wilhelm Borchert), now an alcoholic traumatized by his experiences in the war. At first they don't get along but Susanne makes an effort to help the man. One day she discovers a farewell letter addressed to the wife of Mertens' former captain, Ferdinand Brückner (Arno Paulsen). Susanne decides to deliver the letter she thought Hans had forgotten about and discovers that Ferdinand Brückner is still alive. He's an esteemed citizen and successful businessman now. Mertens is surprised when Susanne tells him the truth and decides to pay his former "comrade" a visit to settle an old score.

Murderers Among Us is the first film shot in post-war Germany while Berlin was still in ruins. This provides the film with a strinkingly realistic scenery and atmosphere. Wolfgang Staudte delivers a masterful direction, combining elements of neorealism, expressionist cinematography and film noir. A forgotten gem of post-war European cinema.

Watched it last night on your say-so. Indeed very clever and a brilliant ending.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

So does Solo: A Star Wars Story provide a great back story for Han Solo, one of Sci-Fi's iconic characters or is it just a highly watchable, space adventure....im leaning towards the latter.

With all the behind the scenes drama during this movies production ,i expected to walk into a jumbled mess, but for the most part i had a good time with this one.
Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian do their best to fill the huge iconic shoes of these legendary characters. They're not bad i would say lukewarm,im glad they really didnt try to impersonate,Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams.
Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra provided enough ambiguous charm, and i bought into her relationship with Solo.
Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett was great as Solo's semi mentor.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3-37: Lando's droid companion and navigator had a couple of standout, charming and humorous scenes.
Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos goes to the just enough mark with the villainy
The film is visually stunning, and loaded with interesting characters and creatures.

Other characters screen time, who i immediately liked was all too brief.
Solo's past is just slightly touched on here and there,i had to listen closely because i may have missed the quick remarks about his life.
Some of the things that shaped his life and influenced him are displayed, including his bond with Chewbacca.
The film meanders and stalls here and there and i started to feel it's 2 hour and 15 minute running time.

I enjoyed this film for what it was a great adventure with some Star Wars seasoning, serviceable, but definitely wasnt blown away by it.
If Producer Kathleen Kennedy and Disney are going to continue to make these individual Star Wars character films with just glancing shots at the core of the character, like a filler episode of Star Wars Rebels,i think fans are going to catch on quick, and look elsewhere for their Star Wars fix.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The 6th Day. An Arnie film I saw years ago and had an inkling to watch again. It's OK but about 20mins too long.

Like a Bat Outta Hell (2013) aka Nowhere Else (original title)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2193167/

Apparently based on a real Aussie legend, a group of Australian documentary makers journey to a remote town called Nowhere Else to investigate a series of mysterious killings, the place is home to giant killer bat-like creatures

An evening with Blake Edwards.

The Great Race (USA, 1965)

With Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood (was it really Robert Wagner?), Peter Falk and Jack Lemmon as the unforgettable Professor Fate. Push the button Max!

Victor/Victoria (UK/USA, 1982)

Ambiguous comedy about gender roles. A remake of the German UFA talkie 'Viktor und Viktoria' from 1933. With outstanding performances by Julie Andrews (goddess), James Garner, Robert Preston and Lesley Ann Warren.

Sadly Hollywood doesn't make greats like that any more.
