http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712578/ "The Devil's Rock" [2011] an almost interesting WW II Nazi/occult movie that has a promising idea -- the SS has summoned a demon on the Channel Islands, discovered by two Kiwi commandoes A lot to like about this movie, including one of my favorite treats, demon tits, but satanic boobage notwithstanding Deepsepia gives it a "meh", albeit with points for Kiwi content and better acting than you'd expect. File under "near miss" Last edited by deepsepia; March 6th, 2018 at 11:07 AM.. Reason: added pix |

Watched Darkest Hour (2017) Gary Oldman is superb. I had not heard that Chamberlain and Halifax were such backstabbers. The King did not seem to stutter. Give it 4 of 5 stars.
As one might guess, I watched Death Wish (2018) in the theater. Good revenge film. Alterations from the Bronson original. Still prefer the Bronson film because it was the original. Bad guys are mostly white, which because this film is set in Chicago, is in itself a joke. His change from a non-gun owner to the vigilante "The Grim Reaper" is sorta believable. His father-in-law blasting away at some skedaddling poachers with a 30-30 lever action rifle would have been murder if he connected. I won't comment on the procurement of weapons and most of the action in the film. I will comment on the two following items. His injury to his shooting hand, from the slide hitting his hand in the area between the index finger and the thumb was unlike anything I have ever seen at the range. I have only seen a scratch that drew a minor amount of blood from a noob when he fired his first shot. The movie had him inflict this damage to himself after the third or more shot in the combat sequence. Moving your thumb from its stabilizing position on one side of the pistol to the middle where the slide moves while you are shooting is just a weird event to see portrayed. The part where the police note the evidence of him being involved in earlier shootings but not acting on it was I guess believable. I recall a female friend telling of how the Texas police told her if she shot a burglar outside of her home, to drag the body inside before she called them. Well, anyway, the critics seem to hate this film - mostly for bad timing and apparently a pro-gun message - and the audience give it a positive 85% rating. I give it 3.5 out of 5. No nudity in it. |

Eel Girl [2008]
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1209317
Another film, this time a short, by Paul Campion -- the Kiwi behind "The Devil's Rock" noted above. The short movie -- just five minutes-- is a find. Its effectively "The Shape of Water", but as a horror story. Its more than a little amazing how close the plot is to del Torro, and even some of the look. Its only five minutes, and its on Youtube, so you can see the whole thing. Very well done for what it is . . . and in light of the Oscar to The Shape of Water, very timely. |

Gammera the Invincible (1966)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434964/ An atomic explosion caused by a downed plane in the Arctic as the USA & USSR are pratting about in cold war shenanigans accidentally awakens Gammera, in eskimo legend a giant, fire-breathing turtle. Our mighty beast for some odd reason heads off towards Tokyo. I'm watching the US version with lots of American actors shoehorned into the plot Good old monster fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mTDuMHJkN4 Full movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORoNasbc-4U

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. Okay, it's time killer, but a really entertaining one with some great comic acting. And for me, Jack Black steals the film like he does every one he's in.

Mmmmm lusts me some Sackhoff
Several very graphic totally unnecessary to the plot nudes scenes , hopefully
Currently punishing myself (Well all Mods are masochists ) by watching the latest episodes of Walking (Zzzzz) Dead. Before that though had just re-watched , This Marvelous (Yes I used the word , butt am secure in my sexuality ) dark quirky horror comedy about a mentally messed up lad (No relation ) who has urges to kill. Mainly it`s what happens when he gets to know somebody that`s already given into those urges. We`re talking about a right old whackjob of a human being Or is he If nobody has gotten round to seeing this yet I highly recommend they place it on their to peruse list
