Angry NEWS Rant (part 2) .. and believe me , I haven't even started

I want an authoritative journalist to be the person to give me information & ask relevant questions - If i wanted a magazine show, I'd watch one

Long gone are the days when a politician was asked into the studio for a grilling or at the very least asked a few awkward questions - this is what is lost in journalism these days, soft smiley presenters have their place , even if it is to just give the aaaww factor after the round-up but I want a journalist who can think of a question without being cattle-prodded by an earpiece.

In the UK we have Newsnight where a hardnosed anchor (just the one) reviews the days breaking stories , reporters who have researched the story or who specialize in that field gather salient points.
Channel 4 News will often focus on a couple of stories i'd never even seen reported on other so called dedicated News channels.

However, the only time BBC or Sky News have ever been of use to me is 3 O'clock in the morning when the poor sap who got roped in to do the overnight shift accidentally reads out some breaking News out of the news-pipe
- but just the once !
It mightn't be reported or investigated again leaving the viewer uninformed.

then all day they re-hash the same half hour loop of pre-packaged up-sums of the same 7 events in the most basic way, a reporter stands in a quarter shot beside a plain piece of background & the dumbass goes into weather-man mode where he's aided by pop-up graphics & stats, backing-up his data on the rising average of Childrens' Pocket Money

Piss Poor Journalism pisses me right off, there are people who can & want to do it, but we're all pandered down to the lowest common denominator in order not to scare the horses.

It's actually not that long ago (June) that Chloe Smith was put on the barbie by the grillmeister - and at the cabinet reshuffle a few days ago that may have cost her her job.

Wink I do enjoy a bit of Paxo

that clip was from June 2012

One of the most recent flounderings I saw & enjoyed seeing the discomfort of a minister was regarding the 'Bedroom Tax', (15mins :30 onwards) he almost has her in tears a couple of times and at the end Paxman is clearly told to move to the next story

Is it me or we should have given Concorde fleet to Richard Branson when our UK Government appeased the french by scrapping our fleet of them because the French panicked over the air crash.

Branson said he'd update the aircraft with all modern mod cons and keep them flying.

Typical government backstabbing.

I think this is just you. The government does not own the Concorde fleet. All they did was leaving it to the aviation authorities to declare the plane unsafe. No government in their right mind would overrule that, because if something goes wrong again they are collectively in the shithouse, or rather: the morgue. Besides, Brandon runs an airline, he does not manufacture airplanes.

I'm not sure he has. Plane design is very very expensive, too expensive for the average billionaire.

But from the politicians POV this is really a no go area. As soon as they greenlight it, there would be pressure to accept the overhaul, no matter what, because otherwise it's a white elephant.

One thing that fundamentally changed politicians view of how deal with issues of public safety was the Thalidomide affair in the 1960s. As you perhaps know, this drug caused the disfigurement of thousands of children worldwide. In the US, one official blocked the release of the drug for the US market, because she felt the drug's tests were inadequate. She was put under a lot of pressure to change her stance, but did not, and when eventually the story broke there were a lot of extremely relieved politicians and officials out there. Not only were a lot of children saved from that fate, anybody who would have partaken in the overrule of that initial decision would have been sued their pants off by armies of furious parents. That story told the politicians: leave issues of public safety to the experts!

Occasionally this is re-enforced by the likes of John Gummer, who looked like a complete plonker publicly feeding his 4-year-old a beefburger at the height of the BSE crisis.
