Default 'Three Billboards'

'Three Billboards'
A mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder when they fail to catch the culprit. ...
This is a genuinely great film with some terrific actors , I am especially
delighted that Peter Dinklage is given a decent part
This is one film where you are best NOT to see any reviews and just watch it and make up your own mind ... 8/10
One of the best films in the last year , for me personally

Watched the first hour of Kong: Skull Island last night. I didn't expect much and it lived down to my expectations. Samuel L. seems to have given up acting to become fat and lazy. The flying sequences were a joke. How many slo-mo rotor turning shots do you need. The director seems to have come from a career of music videos. Awful. Won't stop me watching the end though.

t'was The Beast saved Beauty.

Thor Ragnarok. I didn't see it on the big screen, now I wish I had. Hemsworth was really good and would have walked away with the movie if not for Tessa Thompson as an alcoholic Valkyrie holding her own with the boys
More comedic that I realised and occasionally laugh out loud funny. Three hammers up.

YES !! It's finally been made a Youtube stalker/thriller movie !!

Uber popular Youtuber Garrett (played by The Flash’s Keiynan Lonsdale) suddenly finds himself being stalked by one of his female fans and before you can say block her from your social media...lovely Shell (Ema Horvath) does everything to wreck his life.
Keiynan Lonsdale is capable and believable as the followed by 2 million youtube phenom, who along with his"friends" makes wacky staged videos along with streaming videos of gaming.
Horvath is also believable as the seemingly innocent temptress who goes off the deep end for Garrett
There are some fun moments especially if you have ever been a part of social media
I couldnt help but shake my head at the vacant and oblivious personalities of some of the characters.
For the most part it's just a predictable ,silly, paint by numbers romp.

Scale of 1-10 a 4˝

The Snowman

A thrilling and chilling trailer leads to a film that isnt even lukewarm.
Detective Harry Hole (HA HA !!(Michael Fassbender),attempts to track down a serial killer who leaves snowman as a calling card at each murder scene.
This is a very slow paced film, that never gets going. It's filled with sadistic and creepy characters that at least provide some great unintended laughs.
Every 30 minutes i kept thinking ok this is when it becomes involving and thrilling.....NOPE !!
There's some really bad voice dubbing, and now that i know the facts behind it,i feel very bad for the actor who was dubbed.
Another fact at least 15 minutes of the film was left out due to either budget or scheduling conflicts.
As soon as a character was introduced i knew who the killer was.
Some of the actor's really try with the script, and the film looks incredible but i say wait for cable so you can have a few laughs

Scale of 1-10 a 3

Sicario 2015

Starring Emily Blunt - who will play the next Mary Poppins, a totally different role.

This is a very gritty US special forces/FBI operation against Mexican drug cartel members, often taking you into really sinister territory. If you've seen the US version of The Bridge TV series, you'll like this, as it's a step up.

Emily Blunt works for the FBI and is recruited to a special ops unit and their first mission is to cross the border to recover a suspect held in a Mexican jail. The story progresses to the team raiding under-border tunnels, corruption and a vendetta.

There's nothing really complicated about the theme for this movie, but it has a pretty good ongoing feel of tension. I personally liked all this a lot, having been across the border some years ago and finding the whole trip very uneasy.

I'm not going to say that Sicario will be everyone's bag, but the film really has a lot to say about the future of US relations with Mexico and the very serious problem they have right on their own doorstep.

For me, 9/10 and an excellent couple of hours viewing.

Apparently, there is a sequel in production.

Thought it was gleefully intense when i saw it when it first came out. That opening scene's the perfect example of how to kick things off

In the Fade (2017)

Imdb

Synopsis : Katja's life collapses after the death of her husband and son in a bomb attack. After a time of mourning and injustice, Katja seeks revenge.

Personal note : Stellar on all fronts, from Kruger's gutsy and visceral performance to the inventive script. Giving this one a ringing endorsement. Watch it, you won't be wasting your time. 8/10

Space Amoeba (1970)
aka Yog: Monster from Space

An unmanned mission to Jupiter is hit by a strange blue cloud that makes the ship turn 180 degrees and head back to Earth. A reporter claims he sees the craft drop into the Pacific from an airplane window.
By coincidence the reporter is persuaded to join a mission to an island in that area reported to be inhabited by monsters. The alien mist that attacked the space craft mutates land creatures into giant monsters to attack the islanders.

Brilliant monster fun.

how awesome is that!!

And doncha' think that naming your monster "Yog" is kinda giving up a little bit . . . its maybe like naming it "qwertyuiop" . . . doesn't sound like the screenwriters were inclined to exert themselves too much.

The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973)

Excerpt

Józef (Jan Nowicki) is travelling to visit his dying father, Jakub (Tadeusz Kondrat), who lives in a sanatorium. After he has arrived, the place seems desolate and no one appears to be in charge. Also time behaves in a strange ways as Józef begins to jump to different episodes of his childhood but in surreal settings.

The Hourglass Sanatorium is based on a book by Jewish-Polish writer Bruno Schulz who was killed by a Nazi in 1942 while on his way home. Visually stunning, the incoherent interpretation of the original story may become too surreal for the viewer as it did in my case. Perhaps I've watched too many films of this variety.
