12 Strong

After the horrible events of 9-11 many men and women entered the Armed Services. Some who had already served for years and were semi retired or assigned to desk jobs wanted to serve in combat again. One of those people was Captain Mitch Nelson. He and a detachment of Green Berets joined forces with warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum , one of the leaders of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan. This would be no easy task due to the rough terrain and being extremely outnumbered.

When 12 Strong isnt bogged down by cliched dialogue or action sequences that start to feel repetitive its an effective drama that shows the bravery of the soldiers and all the horrors that war brings forth.
The tense relationship between Nelson (Chris Hemsworth) and Dostum (Navid Negahban) is definitely one of the highlights of the film.
There are also good acting turns by Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, and William Fichtner
The action works in some extremely intense sequences ,some were definitely edge of your seat worthy.
Im glad the story was declassified and told as the first strike/mission against the Taliban ,something that was supposed to take years was accomplished in 3 weeks.
Hats off to the brave people that accomplished this feat.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Den of Thieves

IMO it seems so many crime drama's have tried to emulate the greatness of Michael Mann’s 1995 thriller, Heat.
Director Christian Gudegast gives it his all for Den of Thieves, shaping something that is never boring but definitely not flawless.
The story is solid enough. The heist crew made up of Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), Bosco (Evan Jones), Levi (50 Cent), and Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) have pulled off some succesful robberies but it's always that ultimate big score and when their latest robbery leaves bodies in it's wake L.A sherrif Nick Flanagan (Gerard Butler),and his team will do what it takes to bring them down.

There's enough style and swagger in DOT to make the film entertaining, and when it stays in those lanes and with deafening shoot outs laced with some humor it works, but when they try to add familial drama it goes off the rails and i began to wonder why it was added in the first place.

The film borrows from films like Heat and another effective crime drama i wont spoil here with some alterations.
The cast does well with what's given to them but there are some twists that were partially predictable
So it's no Heat but hey nice try though.

Lightbulb What a gut

Punch

Of a revenge , redemption and retribution Irish minuscule budget marvelous tale. With a cast of unknowns (To me). Concerning a formerly placid middle aged son left with no other choice than to do what he`d never previously have dreamed of doing.
Certainly with a pan of beans , and an iron

Ok Ok I say a cast of unknowns. One certain character reminds me of an ex

All the same I still give this a deserved treble

Default Sara Malakul Lane Triple Feature

Last night I was enjoying triple feature based on one of my favorite babes's filmography: Sara Malakul Lane.

12/12/12 Spawn Of Hell -- Sharktopus --Jailbait

IMDB 12/12/12
YouTube Trailer 12/12/12
IMDB Sharktopus
YouTube Trailer Sharktopus
IMDB Jailbait
YouTube Trailer Jailbait

1212/12 aka Spawn of Hell aka Evil Born

After Sebastian, a new born baby, viciously murders the doctors who delivered him, his mother realizes that there is something seriously wrong with the child.

For sure it's a sleazy B movie which was trying to stick on this all end-of-the-world phenomenon back in 2012. But it works. The evil baby who jumps at his victims throat is funny, Sara Lane is gorgeous and the director manages to create a gloomy atmosphere through the locations, some lonely neighbours from LA. It's a fun flick to watch.

Sharktopus

The U.S. Navy commissions created a genetically engineered half-shark, half-octopus for combat. During a demonstratio, the creature called Sharktopus escapes the control of its creators and makes its way to Puerto Vallarta. Hunted by a young scientist, a mercenary and a television crew, The monster attacks numerous beach-goers.

Shot in 2009, Sharktopus was one of the first films from the shark generation, before Sharknado & co. The story's dumb, most of the sfx are cheesy as hell but there's a good mood, plenty o'laughs and the main-title creature looks great. The movie's also fast-paced and has some good moments if you're totally sure about what you're looking at.

Jailbait

Anna Nix's journey into the dark world of an all girls jail where she discovers complex relationships, drugs, mental illness, and her eventual search for redemption

Easily he best one of this triple feature night. Jailbait is a surprising movie from the studios The Asylum, it's not as cheesy and voluntarily stupid as most of their productions. It depaints a very dark, violent and desperate world. Of course Jailbait is also an exploitation film so you'll have lots of nudity and lesbian sex but it's convincing and definitely not for kids. Sara's great in here.

Tale of Tales (2015) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tale_of_Tales_(2015_film)
Salma Hayek - A trio of tales - I didn't really care for it. People are superficial. 2 of 5 stars perhaps. Basically people wanting something, getting it, and it not being good for them at the end. Well, maybe one person got a kingdom at the end, but she murdered someone who I didn't think deserved it. Eh, don't waste your time on it unless you see it free.

Big Grin If you`re prepared to view

This ,

As a super hero comedy/spoof on the Asgardian legend , plus the chance to sort of see a Hulk movie. Then you`ll enjoy it.
At all times however for that to succeed you must ignore the plot.
Because that`s what most everyone else involved with it did.

No I`m not dissing it. Since never been able to take Thor seriously anyway.

For what it was , found it a mirth filled tension free likeable romp

Cold Moon (2016)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4441098/

SPOILERS

What starts off as a murder in small town America turns into a spooky thriller as a young girl is killed, it turns out she was pregnant and the family suspect Nathan Redfield, a particularly nasty piece of work although as he is from a rich family the police are wary about confronting him. Well worth watching.

Oh Dear

Patient Seven (2016)
www.imdb.com/title/tt5345298/

Michael Ironside plays Dr. Marcus, a renowned psychiatrist who has selected 6 severe mentally disturbed dangerous patients in Spring Valley Mental Hospital to interview as part of research for his new book. He interviews them and each reveals a pretty poor background horror story including vampires & zombies, who is patient 7 though? It's not as much as a surprise as you may think as the same subject has been used many times before in movies.

On the whole pretty dull and unchallenging and a waste of £7.00

Allied 2016

This is a movie set in WW2, starring Brad Pitt and French actress Marion Cotillard. Good acting and superb visuals that I really couldn't fault, giving everything a very authentic feel.

It begins with Brad Pitt being dropped by parachute into an area of desert in Morocco and then teaming up with Marion Cotillard. They both hit it off fairly quickly and then undertake a rather unlikely raid on a gathering of senior Nazi officials. This might almost have been Brad Pitt re-doing a scene from Inglorious Bastards, but they manage to escape and both end up in London a few weeks later.

If you plan to see this movie, I won't say how the second half goes, but in terms of WW2 films, I'd rate it more highly than Dunkirk as an entertaining couple of hours viewing.

Worth a watch and quite stylish at times.

6/10
