Umm, No, I haven't taken it in yet. Mostly due too Christmas and New Year

This all started with my Mac DVD Ripper Pro.

Out of desperation, Kelio, who I know uses the Aimersoft DVD ripper and says it works well. I had a look and bought it, downloaded as a dmg, and it installed and works fine So it appears it might only be ones that are not downloaded from the apple store and unzip as an app and not a dmg.

I will take the Mac too the store mid January if I haven't sorted the problem by then.

Last year I bought Mac DVD ripper pro and it worked well, until there was a new version 5 update, to go from version 4 to 5 you had to buy the new one.

So, I bought v5, sent the old one too trash, unzipped the new one, and it wasn't a dmg, it was just as an app, so I moved it too the app folder ...... and when clicked on it just bounces once and that's where it ends I sent them an email... without an answer yet So, I thought I'd be smart, I sent the new v5 to trash and had a copy of my original v4 and installed it .... It to does the same thing now

Solved ....... Buy a new

There's an Aussie forum, Mac Talk, I visit now and then, Some seem to have had problems installing Yosemite on an older machine, Mine had it factory installed and though it takes a bit of getting used to seems to work well.

I used the migration assistant getting what I could out of the old Mac Mini using the time capsule as the router and that worked well also
though that did take some time, I didn't want too buy a thunderbolt cable Only 1 app for an external Western Digital HD didn't work.

Apart from that the new one is working fine and the old Mini I'll reboot to factory settings and give to my 2 young nieces, I'm sure they don't need to be exposed too McDonaldsoft at all at young age

I'll give 10.10.2 a 8.5/10 so far

Err,

A couple weeks back, I finally finished ripping all our DVD's into mp4 format onto a HD for the lounge room.

Now I've got that bug again, Blu Ray for Macs

1, has anybody used it
2, What's a good Blu Ray writer
3, Is there a Blu Ray ripper that can convert too any video format

I could google it, just can't be bothered, yet

Thanks Mate
I'll look into that place, hope they ship to Oz

The funny thing about Apple stores here in Oz is that I've never seen a Blu Ray player in one, or one of their premium re -sellers I refuse to buy anything from any mega electrical / electronic stores, I hate those sales staff that haven't a clue what they're crapping on about.

Kelio and I had a few PM's also and I found this with Blu Ray stuff for Macs also

@Estreeter.
There is no difference between a PC Hard Drive or DVD writer or CD writer and a Mac Hard Drive, DVD writer; CD writer...it's the software for these items that are the difference.
The reason I use Other World or The Apple Store or some Mac specific hardware source [MacMall for instance] is the connection options. USB is the only game in town for PC's where as Macs use better and faster connections like Firewire and Lightning.

That's a nice article. Breem is a first rate reviewer.

Apple has never supported Blu-Ray in any of their devices. Blu-Ray isn't just a format, its a very aggressive DRM (digital rights management) scheme, one which wants access to your device in all kinds of ways that Apple didn't want to give them.

Steve Jobs long ago described Blu-Ray's licensing scheme as a "bag of hurt", and decided not to play ball, a decision that they've stuck with.

Default New version of OS X

Please note I am not an experienced Mac user. But I do subscribe to a newsletter that exchanges information on software updating. This came across my desk yesterday.

To: Patch Management Mailing List
Sep 29 at 12:21 PM

New version of OS X is out tomorrow and that means that Mountain Lion will be reaching its end of support as Apple tend to only keep one old version in support at a time.

There’s a nice review of it below.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09...chnica-review/

One of the big under the hood changes is System Integrity Protection, which is detailed in the page below, and this could cause some application compatibility issues if you have old software that goes places it shouldn’t.

Default Office 2016 users cautioned about OS X 10.11 updgrade

Office 2016 apps crash following OS X 10.11 El Capitan upgrade
If you are a Mac user that relies on Office 2016 apps to get your day-to-day work done then you might want to hold off on upgrading to OS X El Capitan.

By Adrian Kingsley-Hughes for Hardware 2.0 | October 2, 2015 -- 10:57 GMT (03:57 PDT)

If you are a Mac user that relies on Office 2016 apps to get your day-to-day work done then you might want to hold off on upgrading to OS X El Capitan.

According to an extensive thread on Microsoft's Office for Mac support forum - combined with firsthand experience of the issue - the problems seem many and varied. Outlook appears to be the main culprit, but Excel and Word are also reported to be problematic for some. For some the apps crash while in use, while for others it is coming out from sleep that causes issues. Others are finding that as soon as one app from the Office 2016 suite crashes or locks up, the others then follow suit.

There are multiple claims that suggest the crashes only occur if two or more Office 2016 apps are run simultaneously.

Currently there doesn't seem to be any fix for this issue other than rebooting the Mac and waiting for the apps to crash again.

This doesn't appear to be a new problem related to the OS X El Capitan final release either. The first complaints began to appear early July soon after the first public beta of OS X 10.11 El Capitan landed. Others claim that the issues were present in earlier releases of OS X.

According to Faisal Jeelani, who is identified on the support forum as "Program Management | Outlook for Mac," Microsoft is "working closely with Apple to resolve this issue as soon as possible" but that at present no timeline for the fix exists.
