Big Grin

kevin here. I think I once mentioned this way, way back. Australia is an enormous continent almost the size of the continental U.S., but with only 24 million people. Couldn't a large portion of the uninhabited portion of the outback be used to make a giant compound where the U.S. could dump all it most hardened criminals serving life sentences. It would be like that movie : Escape from New York" where in the future the entire island of N.Y.C was a penal colony. Guard stations with all the latest modern deterrents could be buit to keep prisoners from escaping. This would greatly help to reduce the overcowded populations of the worst criminals in the U.S. prisons. The U.S. would of course pay the Australian government a great deal of money to do this. Pretty please. Take our criminals and dump them in Australia!

Yes. A U.S. criminal serving a life sentence is either a murderer, or armed robber or repeat rapist. These people have no rights and should be just dumped someplace where they could live out the rest of their miserable lives or die. F....em. If the radioactive waste kills them, then good ridddance.

No they're not. US$153 in videotapes for one (famous) example. There are others.

Under US law they do still have various rights. Maybe you want them to have no rights but that is a quite different kind of statement.

true, they still have rights, but in my opinion their rights should be forfeit as soon as they are convicted of a capital crime.

We're talking about people, some of whom have committed no capital crime.

What about those who've been convicted of capital crimes yet were (later found to be) innocent of them? Several US states (I think including Illinois?) temporarily stopped carrying out capital sentences as a consequence. The US has a large number of such cases, many of which some US states have done their level best to ignore/not re-investigate.

There have been more than a couple of Al Jazeera documentaries on this very topic, I think from last year? Also articles in the newspaper.

I did not want this to become a political discussion. My comment was intended to be comical, but things went wrong. Should have stuck to fantasy instead. Am better at that.

Huh? You never heard about 3-strikes-and-you're-out?

Australia doesn't have that, or?
