I haven't watched soccer for many years, and obviously players are taught to do it these days. But I found the number of times defenders were pulling shirts and holding other players really shocking. It was almost every free kick or corner, quite blatant, and the cameras picked it up very clearly

I'd like to see a second referee who could award automatic yellow cards for that unsporting behavior. Maybe they could be awarded during breaks or after game's end. But they should be ruthless. That kind of play is very degrading for soccer

Last time I was home in Scotland I met a few old friends and went to a Championship match. Not a big crowd and you could hear what was being said on the pitch. After the mildest tackle, a striker went down like he'd been shot, clutching at his leg. At least half the stadium must have heard one of his team-mates saying "Get up, ya fuckin' prick. You're embarrassin' a'body." That was his own team-mate. I'd like more of that in football. I hate "simulation" - it's just cheating. Might be worth sending players off for 15 minutes for diving - a sin-bin kind of deal. Automatic 10 or 15 minutes in the sin bin for diving... it might make players stop diving... or it might leave games as 5-a-sides. I just hate diving.

This seems to be like NBA basketball, where players are allowed to 'travel' by taking more than 'one-and-a-half' steps. If the players aren't going to be forced to play by the rules as written, why don't FIFA and the NBA acknowledge that by changing the rules?

I love this idea. Neymar would never be on the field. Or maybe we could extend it and make them sit in a) an actual bin or b) a baby's cot complete with teddy bear, rattle etc and Arsene Wenger dressed as Mary Poppins.

This is something that, as a good french, I already knew: ok, France has indeed great resources, but many countries benefit from those ! plus, it's not only immigration: Eden Hazard has been schooled in ... Lille OSC. For the croats, Dejan Lovren in Lyon. France even gave Belgium a second assistant coach... who's been a world cup winner with Deschamps in 1998. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55XYp2KD2Y

Yes, but didn't the French consider Thierry Henry a traitor because of that?

Henry had chosen to not speak to the medias during the competition so a lot of people didn't even knew he was there. And whose who knew didn't really care about that.

He got way more criticism when he had that hand assist against Ireland.

Let's be serious.
The worst team won, my homeland team.
I remind 1982 1986.
A shame as I consider it, Didier came and solved (as usual the problem), let's play as Italian team (Juventus).
I love Didier but in 50 years we will remind magnificent losers as Belgium and Croatia, as We remind France Platiin years 82 86 Brazil 82 86 England 86 90 not winners but brilliant.
