To dupe or not to dupe.......
.......... that is THE question.
As we are probably all aware there a lot of dupes popping up in various threads in softcore, so my question is : How do you feel about them? A) They do no harm, leave them. B) They are a pain in the a**e I understand in big threads (Kirsten Imrie, Gail Mckenna, etc) there are bound to be reposts but what about smaller threads. I await your views, then we can decide what action if any to take Ing |

dupes are annoying, but I think you risk throwing the baby out with the bathwater if you really try to crack down on them. Meaning that you'll discourage people from posting.

Duplicates happen. There are a lot of reasons and even the best intentioned poster will sometimes post a duplicate. Sometimes they're not even truly duplicates, a lot of red carpet event pictures are very close, requiring a close examination of exactly where the subject's hands are, etc. Or different scanners creating pictures from the same source.
The huge majority of posters do make good faith efforts to avoid posting dups. The ones who don't, well, they're usually problem makers for other reasons. I also recall at least one poster pointing out that links die and duplicates can become backup downloads. Also, is a higher resolution or subjectively better quality copy of the same pic a "duplicate"? In my experience most people don't think so but I've seen some reactions here that only make sense if those posters do. There are programs to help people find and delete duplicates (I use two of them). I think the occasional duplicate is nothing to get worked up over. If someone is obviously deliberately posting large numbers of duplicates, then a Mod talking to them would probably solve the problem.

To clarify the question, is a dupe the same image, or the very same file? Some of my posts have included duplicate images, but when that happens I'm posting my own scan from the source material, and I think it's an improved version over what's already on the thread. Other times my own scan isn't much or any better than what's there so I don't post it. I'm very interested to hear other opinions on this, because I do think there are too many dupes reposted on account of sheer laziness.

I feel duplicate images are acceptable as long as they are an addition,
such as a larger/higher res of scan. Or perhaps a different scanner's work, etc. To have someone submit smaller versions, not very cool. Mucks up a thread. [Especially with an excuse such as "I couldn't be bothered to search all X-amount of pages"] Duplicate threads for a model - not acceptable. |

Sometimes, dupes are OK...
As mentioned, there are times when you may add a higher resolution image, or you get images from a seperate source; but at times it has gotten out of hand... There is little excuse for a poster to not be conscious of his own postings, however... |

If it's whole sets then when you find them delete them. Either way it's up to the mods and as was said earlier makes a backup for future problems.

As I said in large threads its understandable but in ones that are just a few pages thats what i'm really asking about.
Fully agree with the reposting of better scans. |

(All IMHO here, of course.) Its a judgment call. If its 3 pics out of a single 15 pics post, probably not worth doing anything. If its most of the pics in several consecutive (by that user) posts, then you need to delete and talk to the poster. The huge zone inbetween, well, that's what you get the glorious green name for.
I know, that's probably not as much help as you wanted but I think to a large extent it depends on the degree of duplication and the good or bad intentions of the poster based on their pattern of posting.
