Sometimes things just get too old and are more hassle than they are worth. I think thats where your XP machine is. Try CL. I use it all the time and have had very few problems with it. Good luck! |

The PC is attached to the Internet it is the main way I get on, although I have a wi-fi laptop that I can also access the Internet. I need Norton for that purpose too. My main worry was that two programs weren't playing at the same time but on thinking about it I don't need to do two things at once. However, if the PC wasn't attached to the Internet I doubt it would do it anyway. It is a old machine and I have the laptop for the Internet but it is really the keyboard I like to type on AND I have a lot of useful programs plus TWO games I bought years ago that I know won't work with Windows 8.1. I am not sure about this new one Windows 10, I've heard and read so many horror stories about it over the months. Anyway thanks EVERYONE for your help as always.

Or, if you think you can do it, backup anything on the hard drive and install Linux Mint. That won't cost you anything and it may determine if you have a hardware or software problem. Worth a shot. Will only cost you some time. |

I can still use this for a single task so I am not really that bothered that it can't do two things-the last computers I had weren't able to do so and the machines of the past were only designed to do one thing at a time anyway. I will bear what you said in mind though. Thanks.

Heat buildup can cause this problem. Clean the fans and any air intakes if you haven't already done so.
