I went to Brent Cross Shopping Centre last Wednesday and a massive round tree has been erected, made up of circular pieces but not Grotto yet! Its not unusual to see decorations early in shops but I've not seen any house ones yet but give it time and they will be up directly after Advent Sunday. Before that, we have Chanukah so soon time to get the Menorah out(or Hannukiah if you like) and the candles-think of it as Diwali with out the noise.

The burial of Robert Enke today.
Perhaps it was not important to the world but for me Robert Enke was a German goalkeeper and suffered from serious depressions. His 2-year-old daughter died 3 years ago. Later his wife and he adopted a little girl. Robert Enke committed suicide at the 10.11.09 by throwing himself in front of a train. We miss Robert not because he was a good goalkeeper but because we have lost a man with a good character. Only who knew him understands what I mean. Good night, Robert and take care on your daughter. A very touching moment. 0n 1:14 and 2:38 you see his wife http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSBNoBfjntI |

Its not wrong at all for all genuine football fans to mourn any great footballers' loss-Robert Enke was a fine goalkeeper for Germany and his club and to lose his life like that is completely tragic-it shows us sometimes that the so-called 'beautiful game' is not so and lives can be irrevocably changed for the worse. I would feel that way of all footballers and/or managers-I think I am right in saying that Saturday was the anniversary of the death of Jock Stein, fine Scottish manager. Scousers(and I am an honourary one) never forget Shankley, Paisley, Fagan etc and of course the disasters of Hysel and Hillsborough same as Man Utd fans remember the Busby Babes.

And speaking of loss I see that great actor Edward Woodward has died at the age of 79 from amongst other things pneumonia-what a sad loss to the acting world from his appearance in 'The Wicker Man'(which I haven't seen, don't really like horror) to the US series "The Equaliser" from 'Callan' to Eastenders just a few months ago. He will be sadly missed.

Also saddened to hear of the death of Edward Woodward - his roles in Callan and 1990 are fixed permanently into my memory.

Afternoon folks.
Dark isn't it? Funny it happens every year and yet you never fully get used to it being so dark out at 5pm. The day is shorter and the night longer, but it seems to me that Christmas is the wrong time. Its a long day if you happen to be a kid because your day starts at 6am normally and involves you running into your parents' room two hours before they are due to get up and bounce up and down on their bed excitedly-the day just seems to drag, but as you get older and get a sense of time the day is over all too soon-at least it was like that in our house when I was young. How apt that Nick Griffin will be contesting the town of Barking! you couldn't make it up could you. Mind you judging from the comments on yesterday's news the good people of Barking (and Dagenham) won't be swayed by his political rhetoric and ranting-so many chances to shoot himself in the foot.
