Suppose I just want to see 1 part of a multi-part download; I don't want to stitch together Parts 1-4, I just want to see Part #2.
Can I use the program to just remove the "002" suffix at the end and watch that part solo ? |

That does not work PenthouseFan, all parts should be joined again to reconstruct the original file.
It is however oft possible to watch the incomplete file when the beginning is intact meaning that when you want to only see part 2 you could download parts 1 & 2 (.001 & .002) and join those (with HJSplit or simular), then you can watch the joined 2 opening parts in VLC or GOM Player: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t63...-or-audio.html But you then will have a incomplete file. (PS this will only work with media files (.avi, .mpg, etc) not with archives (.zip, .rar, etc.)) |

Just discovered that (free) RAR 'Extract Frog' does the same as jzip above.
http://download.cnet.com/Free-RAR-Ex...-10804840.html I was getting the 'invalid floating point operation' error message with HJspit - decided to unzip first - simple right click>extract - job's done. |

Just wondering what I'm doing wrong here?
I downloaded the 2 parts of Virginia from here: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...light=virginia (#3 by bigfatbob) I successfully joined each part with hjsplit and thought I'd have a go at putting the two halves of the film together. I renamed them from Virginia_upg_cd1.avi and Virginia_upg_cd2.avi to Virginia_upg_complete.avi.001 and Virginia_upg_complete.avi.002 Hjsplit appeared to join them successfully - the original file were 699Mb and 700Mb respectively and the new file is 1.36Gb. However every player I've tried it in only shows the first half (about 45mins). Have I got the renaming concept wrong or do I need to use a completely different programme to put the two halves together? (And if so is there a good freeware option?) The two AVIs (cd1.avi and cd2.avi) are not separate parts of one video. They are two individual videos.

Can I offer a bit of advice on joining split files for Linux and Mac users?
It's actually very easy, no special software required provided you don't mind using a bit of command-line magic. Everything you need is built in. Let's say you have three files in your Downloads folder that need to be joined, mystuff.rar.001, mystuff.rar.002 and mystuff.rar.003. Open a terminal, and in it type: Code:
cd ~/Downloads Code:
cat mystuff.rar.001 mystuff.rar.002 mystuff.rar.003 > mystuff.rar Code:
cat mystuff.rar.* > mystuff.rar Note that on a Mac, for Safari users at least, the usual download location is the Desktop - so as the first step above, you would do: Code:
cd ~/Desktop |
