Eisenhower was probably the last good Republican. An amazing thing to say but I'd probably still vote for him. Believe it or not, there are people today in their 70's, 80's or older that believe the Republicans are the same party as then. Low info voters that just vote the way they always have. Quote:
I'm beginning to think Republicans are too far gone and will go the way of the Whigs. Irrelevant. |

Christy is the only Republican that "may" give any Democrat a race but I don't think he'll get the nomination. Quote:

There is also a news item now buried somewhere in MSN about possible republican contenders for 2016 and its probably not a coincidence that a clear majority of them are not "white bread old guys." I think they're finally starting to wake up to the fact that they need to reinvent themselves some and seem to be taking genuine steps to do so. Be interesting to see what happens next. If nothing else listening to the Republican Convention and debates is always good for a laugh. If it isn't this time around liberals and democrats may have cause to be worried. |

They not only don't get it, they actively don't want to. They are rapidly becoming the party that wants to turn back the clock to the Good Christian 1950s.

Woman will get on the barricades here because of such a bullshit. And they would be supported by men (in this case a fully support by me too). Abortion: In Germany it's already so since 1995 it has to be backed by the insurances; in Austria an Swiss too, in France it will become backed by the insurances soon. Belgium Netherlands, England and North Europe are historically more liberal in this; in Spain it's backed by law since 2010. At the begin of 2013 two (Catholic-) Cologne Hospitals denied a treatment of rape victims. Against the law; it will have consequences at the court. Citizens & Politicians where upset because of it, afterwards there were a lot of people, leaving the Catholic church as a consequence. In some historically Catholic dominated Countries like Ireland, Italy Poland it's illegal. But Poland got a sentence of the European Court of Human Rights to pay a victim a highly (in comparison to the average income) compensation. Hungary is a special case: at Jan. 1. 2012 they got a new Constitution by that (fascistic, IMHO) Government they got since 2010. Europe will be well advised, to keep a very close eye on the development of that country and if it is compatible with the goals of the EU. I think it is not (!!), making a strong note at this place. The abortion in Hungary is de-facto forbidden now. Hungary was once a precursor of the liberation from the Warsaw Pact; very sad the ongoings there.

Maybe. I see a big power struggle going on in the party. The old guard white bread gentleman's club and the younger turks. At the least I think the younger ranks are starting to figure out if you pander to an extremist fringe you lose most of the middle. Weather they can find a coherent message and then find someone with enough charisma to deliver that message remains to be seen.

Any other "moderate" Republicans have pretty much retired over the last few years citing the problems in their party. We have maybe one "moderate" Republican in our State legislature remaining but he's pretty much "persona non grata" by the rest of the Republicans because he thought Scotty Walker went too far. So where is the other part of the "big power struggle". Blue dog democrats? The "middle" of the party seems to be almost non-existent. |

There shouldn't be a law giving Mothers the right to breast feed their babies in public! Why do people get so offended when they see a Mother breast feeding? Is it because they see a Nipple? Considering the little amount of fabric women of all ages are wearing at the swimming pool and on the beach; that's the only explanation I have for people not wanting to see a woman breast feed in public. After all, some of the swimsuits nowadays pretty much leaves the entire breast uncovered except for the nipple area. I bet these same men who don't want to see a woman breast feed in public have ABSOLUTELY NO OBJECTION WHATSOEVER to seeing a woman topless in public!!
