What do football fans think of this new video review system?
Just been watching Portugal v Mexico in the Confederations Cup, the video review panel was used twice. One decision was overturned, an offside. The second was a goal that stood. Unlike rugby you can't hear the discussion between the officials. IMO I think it would be a lot better if we could hear what was being said. Opinions?

I think it is appalling. As you say, the lack of understanding for the fans (and probably players) is a negative. Of course they will claim it will be for important decisions but that is vague. Where will it stop? You cannot put the whole of a game of football under a microscope. The irony being that the Ifab are currently looking at making halves last 30 minutes with the clock stopping when the ball is not in play to deter time wasting. Another ludicrous suggestion. Just penalise the time-wasters heavier and add the exact time on.

I fundamentally disagree with it because FIFA and IFAB should safeguard the game so it's the same on a Sunday morning as it is in a World Cup Final - that's their cornerstone ethic, FFS !
Until they have two sets of rules, one for the elite game and one for the rest of us I think they should stop fiddling. I actually wrote a blog about it yesterday, along with the other proposed changes - and I included three ideas that could improve the game at every level too. Am I allowed to post a link to it ?? |

Exactly rigger, do we have to have video at sunday league or perhaps under'8s games as well.
The only ones screaming for it were the tv and media people, so they could actuallt be part of the game instead of just passively on the side. I always wondered would a ref in each half of the pitch help? |

I agree with you nudgenudge, that would hopefully make players think before they mouth off at the officials! There still needs to be a level of transparency when the officials are discussing decisions!
